Times are now up for this. The load would appear to be only 11 that should be straightforward for a Duchess and unusually for me, the first time I have had a big LMS loco out of KGX:

Plenty of time for Christmas shopping - 5 hours - if you are that way inclined, but a poor path back. Nearly four and a half hours is really quite a long time.

If anyone is thinking of going on this and hasn't yet booked then send me a PM.

Any chance of this running without a diesel ? Not seen a path from KGX yet !

Be optimistic. On previous occasions, this particular trip has been fine. I don't think you will see a path because if the diesel remains at KGX it sits in the bay.

Hmm. booked this last year on basis previous trips were diesel-free and emailed RTC beforehand who said they weren't expecting a diesel.
But lo and behold the Duchess ran with a diesel. As a train timer utter waste of time and money! I never got a proper explanation from RTC and haven't booked with them since.

I recall that this may have been an ETH issue but anyway, as I said, I remain optimistic about Saturday's trip running as it should, especially after a similar Cath Ex trip on Dec 1.

Another WCRC farce? Lots of annoyed people at KGX right now.

Good grief - is there anything that cannot go wrong with mainline steam these days?

Everyone at KGX has been told that the train has been compromised in some way on route to KGX. Trip cancelled. That's an expensive problem for those who have travelled south from up north to pick it up.

    Let's hope not. xxit happens.

A Cross Country HST power car split from it's train earlier this year after departing fom Bristol Temple Meads.
That incident was reported as suffering from a snapped coupling.

Reports elsewhere suggest a coupling failure between two of the carriages.

If true, good it happened to ecs rather than when in service..

Where do you guys find this info. Wherever I'm glad you do. I saw it on RTT but didn't know why until I looked on here. So thank you all.
There were quite a lot of people expecting to see it pass through Sleaford today so have warned them its cancelled.
Feel sorry for those who planned to go on it.

When I'm at work on Monday I'll do a search of all NIRs about divided trains, I've a feeling it happens often enough for the WCR train today to not be the first time it's ever happened in the history of railways. The only difference is that today's issue was concerning a steam hauled service; which has a great deal more interest in it, among Railway enthusiasts!

Post incident handling will doubtless be scrutinised like never before. Let us all hope the revised safety management arrangements prove effective, they will certainly be tested by this one. A headache all concerned could well do without.

Better it happen on an ECS move, than on the ECML.

Shudder to think what the consequences could have been.

Indeed, coupling failings are not unknown on any railway, any traction, in any part of the world. Its why there are EOT warning devices and fail safe braking systems.
