Looking very peaceful on the Island, always nice to see whats happening on railways between visits. Wish more lines would do the same (I know it costs money) but perhaps with a sponsorship deal? Can but dream.

The May C&W update is now on the IWSR website.

The latest edition has news of the progress being made on our two current full restoration projects, LBSCR 4-wheel 3 Compartment Brake Third 4115 and LBSCR 10-ton open coal wagon 27766. There are also pictures of the operational fleet going through their annual re-varnishing programme.

The March edition of Carriage and Wagon News is now available on the IWSR web site.

The main stories this month are progress on the full restoration of LBSCR 3-compartment Brake Third 4115 (the next addition to the Victorian train, hopefully in service later this year), an update on the repair of the SECR bogie coach underframes plus details of the winter maintenance programme.

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway's recreation of a typical Isle of Wight 1930s coal train had its first public outing on Sunday 1oth April, 4 LBSCR 10-ton opens, LSWR Road Van on the rear and headed by W8 'Freshwater'. It looked absolutely superb in the spring sunshine, an absolute credit to the hard working C&W team.

Lots of pictures on the railways Facebook page.

Sitting in my hotel room in Chennai I just spotted the heritage coal train at Havenstreet via the webcam. New technology enabling me to study old technology!

But when you have time it will be best to see it in the flesh (or should it be in the wood)

Don't worry, I was there on launch day and I agree it is very good to see close up.
