The Dean Forest Railway is pleased to announce Hymek D7076 as the first visiting locomotive for our diesel gala on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 2016. The locomotive will be in service all 3 days of the gala with an intensive timetable including last year’s popular rideable freight. The DFR is very grateful to the Bury Hydraulic Group for agreeing to let the Hymek loose in the Forest!! The visit is subject to the usual availability/terms & conditions.

    Thanks,

The DFR Diesel Gala Team 2016

Great to hear the hymek is coming, will be sure to visit this year. The DFR have got a diesel gala page up on the website which is great, but the steam gala two months before there is no information :( let alone May's Mixed Traction Weekend.

Yes the irony isn't lost on me either (!), but the Diesel Gala is all our group have been tasked to organise I'm afraid. If you could kindly post a message on the DFR FB page (or call the office) they should able to bring you up to date as to what is planned.

    Thanks

The DFR are pleased to report that our second guest loco for the 2016 Diesel Gala is confirmed as Class 26, 26043, courtesy of the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway. Normal caveats apply etc!

Unfortunately, due to issues beyond our control, D7076 will be unable to attend this year's Diesel Gala. We are currently in discussions to find a replacement locomotive.

Massive shame that, would be nice if she or another hymek could visit in the future.

Hello all, a brief update on the upcoming diesel gala!
A quick breakdown (not literally I hope!) is as follows with more details up asap.

Friday: Class 26 on passenger service, Class 14's on Rideable Freight (probably with a loco swap at some point during the day)

Saturday: Intensive timetable, involving 26, 2 class 14's and 08 operating passenger services. Rideable freight will also feature (with the Dogfish), and Salty/Don Corbett doing Driver for a Fiver in the Low Level at Norchard between services. Services will continue into the evening connecting with evening mainline services at Lydney Junction

Sunday: Similar to Saturday, without the evening trains.

More and the same info will be available on our website and facebook page.

    Cheers!

The cafe will be open from the start of the day offering a large breakfast selection, and then hot food throughout the day. On Saturday it will continue offering food until 7pm (with a curry special).
The on train buffet will be open all 3 days and serve snacks, drinks and local beers.
There are also good real ale pubs at Whitecroft and Parkend and 3 of them (The Miners Arms Whitecroft, The Woodman Inn and Rising Sun Moseley Green) all offer ticket holders 10% off food.
