Further to the beading post, here's the whole process from start to finish:

A pity that there are a number of errors in it.

I don't suppose there are many books written that don't contain the odd error.
Even more so if one person's error might be another's difference of opinion.

That reminds me: I noted some errors and informed Andy of the first few but haven't got around to informing him about the rest. Must do that.

Well perhaps you would like to enlighten us so future copies can be improved?

Andrew put a huge amount of effort into bringing that book out, and it has a huge amount of new information, photographs and overall understanding of the time. A pity that you can't see the whole story - which is that a young man worked very hard to bring something new to the market place with real value, and succeeded.

I got my copy today and although I only had a thump through it it looks a great read and some lovely photos (some of which have been colourised).

Great to see 2007 has her face now. Great to see how much progress has been made in the last 2 years.

I am impressed by how successfully those pictures have been colourised.

Although I spotted a number of minor issues (all of which I have now reported to Andy) there are only two that (IMO) might deserve an errata slip: on pp. 8-10 "the final stretch from Montrose to Edinburgh", should be "... to Aberdeen" (and strictly from Kinnaber Junction rather than Montrose); and in Appendix 3 some of the coupled wheel diameters are wrong. He said he won't be bothering with another book but I have told him that would be a shame and urged him not to be put off.

Perhaps I should drop him a line and remind him that a talent unused goes wasted. He put together a great book and doubtless could do more. I would be very interested to see a book from the Trust's point of view of putting together the P2. Much of what we see is when parts are finished and not behind the scenes, the actual manufacturing, the design process, and the acceptance stages (VAB).

All received, many thanks for the comments. I knew of a few of the misstates (amazing how six proof readers can all miss the same things) and have taken other comments on board.

    Many thanks
