I'm surprised they can rise to anything if they've ever prepped or fired a castle!

Steep price hike for those who didn't book early - Standard's gone up from £95 to £105.

Oh no! I hoped that with the 75th anniversary of the BoB now behind us, we'd seen that caper off.

Tomorrow is the start of the Torbay Express season. Yippee. :)
Earlier today the empty coaching stock transferred from Eastleigh to Bristol.
From a distance the stock appeared to be all chocolate and cream although there may have been the odd blood and custard interloper. Sorry I can't be more precise but I happen to be colour blind .....probably the main reason that I can't see a problem with the livery of Galatea. ;) <BJ>

technically, but the GWR refused to supply drawings for a Castle so the LMS borrowed a set of Lord Nelson s from the Southern Railway

Wrong type of fire apparently! First time I've ever heard that excuse used on the train itself!

Got going very well given it stopped on a curve on the steepest part of the climb.

Yeah, a few railways have been complaining about it, haven't seen problems on the main though until now.

Report from on board, it is said that the crew built up a big fire at Taunton but with too much in the middle of the box. It didn't burn through on the climb, so stopped to attend to it. Restarted with only one slip and now underway OK.
This is a DBC operation isn't it?

A shame - seems to have been some good running between Westbury and Taunton.

I've known this to happen on expresses out of St Pancras, with 5Xs , we used to ride in the brake van ,in the coach nearest the front, and watch the Vac gauge go back, until the train/loco' stopped for a blow up.

It seems there was a small problem at Westbury too. Found a video on YT which shows there were several attempts to depart before 46100 departed in what appeared to be good health:
