    Looks an amazing loco, good to see it at Rowsley today.

    One thing I have just realized is does it have chocks or other measures to stop it moving.

    Looks like Peak rail are moving upwards and onwards now. Dozens of rabbits with other wild life living in harmony with the rolling stock.

    Can anyone tell me if this line will possibly extend to Buxton one day,,along its original trackbed,as to join to the mainline there would be fabulous.

    Hmmm having been with the railway for over twenty plus years since a kid, it would be nice to get to Buxton,but let's start with the achievable bits first like get to rowsley proper,then bakewell and take it from there.

    I'm told there's a class 14 coming to the line on short term hire in place of the class 31 which has had some engine problems, I also notice mr Briddon has had his 14 on test at Darley yard following a load of work he's done on the loco and transmission, detailed on his "weekend Rails" blog

    I missed it but I'm told the class 37 was fired up the other day too following a lot of work on the engine.

    And Chris has been busy refitting the springs onto Pioneer ,a heavy and awkward job I'm told but at least it's done, and the Penyghent chaps have done well on the engine and the tops of the splinters are nearly done (if not already done by now), a couple more weeks to a month or two of work still to do though to get her right.

    I haven't bumped into the 50 chaps to get an update of them so will have to call in on Dave for some news soon.

    Clag fest in the valley anyone

    As he never paid any storage charges at Crewe because they were on site under the pretext of being part of his LNWR business. Now that business has been sold the Crewe Heritage Trust has given him the option of paying storage fees or removing all those items belonging to the Waterman Heritage Trust, hence the steady departure of the various items since the beginning of this year.

    Doors open 1900, show starts 1930
    Tickets on the door £7.50.

    "TOWARDS THE SEVENTIES, BR MODERNISATION"

    Fifty years ago the 1955 Modernisation Plan for British Railways was well into its stride and Rugby, the important railway junction on the West Coast Main Line, was at the heart of this milestone in railway modernisation. The jewel in the crown was to be the high voltage electrification of the West Coast Main Line between London, Manchester and Liverpool and a new Euston station.

    This new programme of rare archive films explores aspects of our more recent railway history including the re-organisation and modernisation of rail freight services in Sheffield, the transition from steam to diesel & electric traction, and West Coast Main Line modernisation, setting the scene for the new age of Inter-City high speed rail travel of the Seventies.

    Highlights of the evening's programme are:-

    • Manchester - Sheffield at 1500v dc - early British Railways main line electrification
    • Steam on the Great Central main line in 1959
    • The legendary 4472 Flying Scotsman locomotive - In action 50 years ago
    • Green Diesels & Blue Electrics - Classic traction footage
    • Freight and a city - Rare screening of a little known film showing the modernisation of rail freight facilities in Sheffield and the new Tinsley marshalling yard.
    • The work of the Railway Technical Centre in Derby
    • Inter-City 125 Trains - Everyday high speed rail travel has arrived
    Interval drinks are available (please pre-order at the bar on arrival).

    In the foyer will be our usual sales stand with bargain-priced second-hand
    books, model railway items, DVDs & videos.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I hope you can join us for what should be an entertaining evening, and a reminder that all are welcome to come along to our Sheffield Branch programme of monthly speakers on the first monday of every month.
    Details of forthcoming meetings, and directions to The Harlequin Pub (real ales), can be found at:
    http://www.peakrail.co.uk/SheffieldBranch
    or pick up a copy of the 2016 Programme from the foyer.
    Delighted to hear full Buxton station site will hopefully be made available to you, now the redevelopment proposals have been dropped by Nestle (according to Steam Beano) it would be great if you could reunite Rowsley to Buxton with a ribbon of steel, what potential.....
    What's the story with the shunting signal shown in this image. I take it from the white cross that it is not in use but from the position and condition of the cross it appears that its use (or otherwise) hasn't been assessed for some time.
    That's what the cross looks like after the tampers been through and vibrated everything to death :), the signal was tested following the tamping to make sure it still worked, whilst the box completely works we still don't have all the signallers trained to run as such and with no plans to use it in January or February next year while,we undertake the crossing renewal at Darley it won't get much use save for an occasional emergency run around, the training of folks does continue in the background but it's a very slow process,beyond that about once every two months it all gets tested and signals cleared.
    The rail tour I'm told will be arriving slightly later around 3:30pm due to a longer possession time on the national network affecting the incoming service ,the timings are up on the railtours website now.
    I noted from a quick look in yesterday that the roller shutter doors are up on the Ashover gangs shed,it looks good now the ends are on the building and I'm sure there's a tardis of space inside it
    On S&T the lamps at Darley on 5,7 and the distant have been swapped over to the dorman plastic box types,I've had to alter the one for the ground doll which is post mounted as there's not enough room to slide the conventional units into the signal as it's mounted,so I've made a slim line version up for that one.
    Andrew and myself had a look at the electric lock on riversides 2 and found a load of rusted gunk had gone down the rear of the dogs inside,that's been cleaned out and tested ok,we also had a look at a track fault (rods expanded and shorted in the heat) and sorted that out too and also solved an issue of the fpl rod drifting hard against the fpl at the same time and we dropped off and assembled the turnover lever for demonstration which is going inside rowslwy cabin against one of the old adjuster posts in the operating floor.
    Crossing renewal at Darley Dale? Assuming that this is Station Road, are you replacing the asphalt surface with a rubberised crossing like Church Lane?
    When we put Station Road crossing in we found part of LMS tarpaulin buried
    When is the signalling at Matlock going to get used
