*First visitor announced for MNR diesel gala*

We are pleased to announce the first of a long line of visiting locomotives (and stock) for the MNR's Spring diesel gala which will run Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd April.

With kind permission of the NRM and in conjunction with the HST Group, the star attraction, making it's first visit away from home, will be the Prototype HST power car 41001 as well as newly repainted Mk3 rolling stock. We are absolutely thrilled to be chosen to be this iconic and popular vehicle's first visit and alongside the MNR's distinctly 1970s and 80s authentic rolling stock will look right at home. Our 12 miles of line will give the distinctive Paxman Valenta a chance to stretch it's legs.

We have a number of other visitors to announce over the coming weeks and if all goes to plan will see one of the largest events we have ever put on. We are also hoping the event will be the return to service of an MNR stalwart and popular loco but more on that later.

Full details at: http://www.mnr.org.uk/ click on the banner or the icon of the HST for the diesel gala information. Online tickets are now available offering a substantial discount in advance.

It's now easier than ever to get to the MNR with the opening of the dual carriageway A11/M11 all the way from London and the M25 to Wymondham and East Midlands Trains run direct services from Wymondham to Ely, Peterborough and the north of England.

    More details to come.

    James, MNR.

The Mid Norfolk Railway is well worth a visit. I live too far away to go there very often, but over the years have enjoyed dmu and class 20 trips over the line, and there are some nice stations too.

    MNR Gala Update:

    - 56006 will be the loco courtesy of Class 56 Group / UKRL
    - Timetables and allocations being finalised at present, we are looking around an 0830 start from Dereham on the Friday to give somewhere around 0930 from Wymondham. Saturday will be a little earlier.
    - Friday will have a bit more a lean towards the HST and 50s (everything else will work though) and there will be our popular photo stops / run pasts at Hardingham, looking late morning for the 50s and mid-afternoon for the HST. You will be able to leave the train and take photos safely lineside at our popular location.
    - Saturday we will run as many trains as we can whilst being practical, this will include a couple of trips to the Network Rail boundary, one late morning one mid afternoon
    - Sunday we are looking to run a train or two up to our limit at Hoe with the train continuing right through to the Network Rail boundary, this will give the full current length of the line approaching 15 miles.

    The current line up is:
    37905, 41001, 45133, 47367, 47596, 50007, 50017, 50050, 56006.

There *may* be an additional surprise visitor but we won't know until nearer the time.

    Regards,

    James, MNR.

I've asked before but lost the post, staying in Dereham, what pubs are good and what are bad?
