It would appear the Crewe Heritage Trust are also keen to see the remaining Waterman Heritage Trust items removed from their site as soon as possible to enable them to tidy up and make the site more visitor friendly. Despite numerous phone calls regarding movement of these vehicles, little seems to be happening.

Some work at riverside and Darley today, the main being cable and signal work, also managed to bump into the contractors chopping down the trees to widen the path for the cycle way between warney lane and riverside and watched them happily remove the tree that was encroaching on the Darley distant, while that was going on I managed to remove a load of washout of mud that had come down the path onto red house crossing and put a new base in for the pedestrians.

Up at rowslwy penyghent gang were busy refitting cyclinder liners back into the engine, not an easy job as they all have to go in from above and be pulled down into the block as they are a tight fit with the new seals and they're big n heavy, I noted the wickham trolley in for rebuilding has had a nice new frame made up which looks the job,the roof has also been repaired and primed and it's engine is being overhauled too, the j94 is coming along nicely, various bits of fittings are being refitted now the bunker and cab is back on and the springs will hopefully be fitted next week, then it's onto the boiler.

I am replying on the question raised earlier of the last LMS passenger carrying coach through Matlock. LMS designed coaches were certainly still around when the through route shut in July 1968. I can vaguely recall some TOs on a Manchester train running through Leicester when I was train spotting in 1968 but whether that was before or after the through route got shut and these trains got diverted through Chesterfield I couldn't be sure. I also recall an LMS designed coach being in the formation of an excursion to Matlock around Easter 1968. However what you really need is photographic evidence which I don't have! Has anyone else got photos or notes to prove this one way or another?

Thanks woodster, education coach no2 in for contract work,id also just saw the dmu coach leaving for its respected railway but couldn't get a picture in time

In other news the Ashover light railway folks have started to erect their shed at Rowsley, which looks very roomy inside, the j94 has started to have its springs fitted and I noted the Heritage shubters busy with more of the ex WSR 04,they've been busy rebodyworking due to years of sea salt damage, the LMSCA were also busy and the NRM carriage now has some proper candelabra fitted, apart from that they've been busy doing some jobs for my department too (many thanks) and I managed to get some small jobs out the way besides having a meet with a potential contractor for building rowsley signalbox base.

I've uploaded a picture of the ash over light railways folks new shed in construction, they picked the right weather :)

News from the other end of the line, if anyone has passed through Buxton station in the past week they will see that the old diesel TMD is being demolished, what will become of the vacant site I do not know, maybe in a parallel universe a certain heritage railway could've found a use for the shed ;), highly impracticle though and the place has been heavily vandalised. I hope the rails are salvageable and go to a good place however. Also a 12t goods van that has been languishing in the shed since the 80s has been pulled out into daylight, not in bad nick either. I think that it has already been snapped up by someone in the buxton area, would've been a good display piece at the station in an ideal world though.

Unfortunately from what I understand the track is simply being scrapped,we did talk to the contractor, but they appear to not see the value in reselling on component trackwork, the buffer stops were cut up,I'm told you could get 3000£ if you sold them through a certain rail selling company back for reuse. Shame as it would have made a lot of good reusing them at local heritage lines, the van as you say has been bought privately, that was very quickly done soon as news about the shed started to filter and well done to that person :) most of the usefull stuff in the shed went years ago,the high level service walkways went I believe to Doncaster to be reused, here was a massive bed lathe in the workshop end which the contractors will be dealing with and there was as I recall a few odd dmu battery chargers and a load of LMS spanners thrown about, I was younger back then.

Il start with myself this this, t fitted the tail weights at riverside which have now been drilled and get moved onto Darley dale to clean out the blocked chimney on the stove and have a Chat with Brian out bobby there, before again moving on to rowsley to sort out some bolts and coach screws on the south end ground frame and oil and grease up the north end, topping this all off with marking out the footings to be dug for rowsley cabin now we've met with the contractor, much digging in e coming month will ensue.

Elsewhere rowsley was busy, the class 37 was being worked on,it's batteries charged and the engine being looked at, (big beastie inside) ,the Heritage Shunters trust were working as was Kev on Castlefield and the Ashover Light railway chaps were continuing with the erection of their shed , the cycle way continues and the new toilet block base has been concreted, the fencing of the cycle way should be next through the site and tidying up the mounds of spoil before around a 1000 tons plus of platings gets dropped to make a new 4 inch good base to the carpark, I even noted lots more cyclists than usual trying to use the unopened bits of the cycle way around the rear of Ashbrooks roofing and many using the opened section between church lane and rowsley, so it seems it's started to get more use already :)

Woodster, yes it is planned to have a proper brick base on the cabin with cast iron inlaid windows in the locking room which we were kindly donated by my colleague Mark from the Chacewater Railway, the design based on Grindleford cabin WP_20160319_11_24_04_Pro.jpg

I hope that PR will have some cycle racks so that cyclists can stop for a refuel

Gah that's a shame, you can never have enough track, i believe DB shenker owned that land rather than network rail, guess it was up to the contractors rather than them in regards to the fate of the track, I've done my fair share of nosing about the place, it was a great playground back in the day ;)

I rode a couple of sections last weekend - Rowsley Railway Station (site of) to the Middle of Nowhere and Middle of Nowhere to Harrison Way -it actually quite good, the Middle of Nowhere bit should be interesting as it is very boggy and they haven't done any surfacing

It's full potential won't be realised until it connects up with the high peak and monsal trails, then you've got a serious tourist asset, it's a good start though :)

Kestrel, thought 37152 had been sold to colas rail along with 188???

Echo the comments 100% about the contractors demolishing buxton shed, sadly you get a few of em nowadays who couldn't give a stuff about recycling old railway bits & bobs. Fortunately though those few are far outweighed by the ones who are more than happy to pass stuff onto preservation projects.
