Not sure that there's a thread yet.

Llangollen Railways Spring Gala event will follow a Cambrian theme this year featuring visiting locos:

7820 Dinmore Manor (courtesy of http://www.dinmoremanor.co.uk/)
    4566 (courtesy of http://www.svr.co.uk/)

Along side these 2 visitors the home fleet will comprise of:

7822 Foxcote Manor - Its first event since extensive boiler work
    5199
    6430
    80072

This will be the first time in preservation that 2 unlined black manors can be seen together, with a supporting cast of locos in (mostly) the same livery. All bar 80072 carry the earlier BR logo.

Of course Llangollen was never a Cambrian line; it was GWR. So are all the locos except the Standard Tank. :)

Although the Standard was built by BR, as were the two Manors, if you want to be pedantic...

West Somerset was never part of the Somerset and Dorset, but their currently running a gala based on it. It's called creating an event around a theme, rather than a random selection of locos thrown together. All of the locos in this event would have been seen on the Cambrian railways network in the mid fifties, therefore we have that theme.

You could say that the 7Fs are the only S&D engines at the WSR gala.

All a bit quiet on here! A couple of weeks to go now. Foxcote manor successfully passed its steam test on Tuesday. 80072 was delivered on Wednesday, facing East again.

Apparently, 4566 should be collected from the SVR on Monday followed by 7820 on Tuesday. Happy days!

You'll enjoy Llangollen. It's an amazing railway in very different countryside from the Cotswolds and they enjoy the regulator. P.S. Our Manor's better than yours!;)

I am coming down next weekend and was wondering if anyone can confirm a few things I was wondering.
Are the directions of the locos: 7822, 6430, 5199, 7820 and 4566 facing towards Corwen. 80072 facing towards Llangollen.
What does the mixed traffic rake consist of? Is set A with the Buffet Car the Maroon set and Set B Chocolate and Cream? And how many carriages in each rake?

80072 will be the only loco facing Llangollen. 7822 underwent a test on the back of 80072 today and put in a surprisingly hearty performance on the return run. My mouth's watering for double 78s!

Locos already at Llan are facing the way you've said there.

Whichever set with the buffet will be Chocolate and cream I'm sure. The Thompson buffet is in York, and that's Carmine and cream. Unless the dance coach is in use then the normal buffet is chocolate and cream.

Take lengths will more than likely be 3 - subs, the rest - 5 (or 6) all depends on where they go. Corwen is only a 5 coach platform so longer trains to there don't really work due to safety issues. Longer trains worked to Corwen have portions locked out. So the 9.20 off Llan is 2 rakes with 1 shut out until it all splits at Carrog.

    The directions of the locos are correct. The coaching sets will consist of Set 1 - 5 x Choc/Cream inc buffet, Set 2 - 4 x Blood/Custard plus 1 x Maroon, Set 3 - 2 x Suburban's, 1 x Blood/Custard and 1 x 57' LM Brake, Set 4 - Mixed Train - 1 x Suburban brake, box van, 5 plank open wagon and WR Toad. The 9.20 off Llangollen will be 2 x Manors and Set 2 & 3 (Nine coaches!). Hope this helps?

So the 9.20 on Friday will have nine coaches, but it will be split to five coaches at Carrog due to the safety concerns at Corwen ?

The first 5 coaches will be in service and the other 4 will only be ECS due to operational reasons. The two Manors and 9 coach set will operate the 9.20 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Llangollen to Corwen then return to Carrog where it will split before the large Prairie will return to Llangollen with the 4 coach set in service.
