    Hi Lee,
I had a look at your Mainline 1 video, and I've sent you some comments via YouTube's internal mail. In summary, I think you have a good eye, but you need a tripod and you need to be more selective about what you choose to show to the public.
    Keep at it!

LMR 175 Anniversary Steam Special "Video" 4/3/06.

Well at last, I have finally got round to transferring some "unique" video footage of the LMR 175 Anniversary Steam Special from last year (Sat 4/3/06) from Liverpool Lime St to the Pennines and return. As you may recall it featured 45407 & 76079 and I had the priviledge of being on the train as well as being the proud dad of the fireman firing 76079 on the Lime St - Stalybridge leg of the tour.

I have initially uploaded three segments so far covering Lime St to Broadgreen with further instalments around Bold, arrival / departure to/from Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge - these will be uploaded in due course.

    Departure from Lime St:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWdsHRhw8XM
Lime St cutting to Edge Hill:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJN50JylbUE
    Edge Hill to Broadgreen:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVFtglNF1nk

Hopefully you will enjoy the video's but my appreciation to Ian Riley for allowing fireman's parents to ride on board on his first firing turn out of Lime St. =D> Sorry it took so long for people to see the results.

8A Rail, those are 3 great clips, I was on that trip as well on the same side as you in the next coach. I didn't have a video with me but took a few short clips on my still camera on Copy Pit, sound not much good but pictures OK. Oh and it was cold that day.

It was the Decauville's last day in steam yesterday, so I made a short tribute. Mainly a slideshow but a video midway. Hope you like the soundtrack [-o<

Jonathon I guess you are taking stills and video at the same time. IMHO you are wasting a good video opportunity by just taking a fixed shot... You might just as well take a load of stills. Please do one thing or the other.

    Re: Railway Video's on Youtube

You don't necessarily have to. If you can get a proper camcorder and a tripod, then you can leave the video to record while you take photos. You will only get a fixed viewpoint but that doesn't mean the end of the world. For example...

    http://mainlinesteamgalleries.fotopic.n ... 55384.html

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4iPSSgyNi3g

Both taken from the footbridge, I just left the camera rolling when I heard her in the distance, moved right slightly and got the shot. So it can be done, but you need either a tripod or something flat and sloid (and safe!) to rest your camcorder on to do the video. If you want to pan the video, then you may as well forget the photos

Cheers Bill, I'll consult the manual and have a little play. I only really noticed it this time I suppose as it's the darkest and dullest conditions I've use dit in so far

Stepney, I agree in part, whilst you can take a shot like yours where there is little or no opportunity for a pan or much zoom, Jonathon is taking his shots in the Scottish countryside where fabulous views and panoramic shots abound. He should therefore take advantage of these, after all it's very rare to see a shot on Shap, the S&C, Dawlish and the Cambrian Coast to name a few, that does not take advantage of the scenery.
