Is the problem of not going via Copy Pit due to the tunnel at Farnworth? I've noticed that there is another TinBath on Sunday 14th February and showing as going via Copy Pit. What's chances of it sticking to route?

    Why Farnworth?

There is reduced capacity between Bolton & Salford Crescent still because the tunnel work hasn't been finished yet. That's also why it's taking a very rare run down the Wigan-Manchester Direct Line in the morning.

Yes, I know about Farnworth tunnel, but Monopodmansdad asked if that was the reason it wasn't going via Copy Pit. If it did go via Copy Pit it wouldn't go anywhere near Farnworth in the first place!

Wasn't the original routeing via Blackburn, Darwen, Bolton and Manchester Victoria where the pair of Black 5s would be released and the diesel take over for the return calling at Wigan for detraining passengers ? If so then Farnworth Tunnel would have been on the itinerary

Yes Fred, you are correct. I was assuming it was going direct to Preston via Copy Pit, but having just read the itinerary it was booked Blackburn - Darwen - Bolton - Manchester. Should have gone to Specthingys!

Realtime has The Tin Bath leaving Man Vic at 10.27 arriving at Romiley at 10.58 and so does UKSteam except UKSteam has the route via Guide Bridge and Realtime show the direct route via Reddish North. I would assume this is a late change and this is the correct route to be taken. If so I cannot remember any steam hauled train taking this route, is this a first?

I've had it on very good authority that Reddish North is the correct route. :)

Surprised that the "gauging issues" hasn't come up yet with the two unusual (for steam) route sections, mind it's only late Friday, time yet!
