Your videos are superb and it's so nice that you don't remove them from public viewing when you do get those strange dislikes and/or any adverse comments. Or no comments at all.

I make a bee line for the threads I think you will post links on, to see your latest work, which is how I get to watch them.

So many thanks to you for all you do to record steam operations and then share with others.

I have put over 500 films on youtube, got over 1500 subscribers and over 1.5 million hits, so I know of what I am talking about.
Lesson one is you wont get instant eternal gratitude for every film you put up right away. If that is why you are doing it, then you will be unfulfilled every time.
Lesson two is you will get detractors, I have a serial disliker who gives me a thumb down for every film I load up regardless. Don't get upset by them, I have grown quite fond of mine at least I know he is watching.
Lesson three and perhaps the most important, is that the purist will throw hands up in horror at any hint of a dubbed sound track, be it music, commentary or anything else. I love setting steam train footage to music, but even with my thick skin I am only brave enough to do it once a year.
Lesson 4, no video, ever, will please all the people all the time.

If you have a source of footage, load it up as and how you like, build a reputation. If your source is good your audience will follow and it will be a self fulfilling experience, tho bear in mind, someone will always have a pop at it.

or you could just throw your toys of the the pram and forget the whole thing

A different style of filming sometimes from West Byfleet man.

But they show a good cross section of todays main line steam scene and I make a point of looking for those too. And enjoying them

    As for "reputation".

I stopped worrying about mine, (not that anyone here would ever notice!), after I was once told how to behave during my career or my reputation would suffer.

So that Friday I went and did my full weekly shop at Tescos and at the check out said, "no money today, I'm using my reputation to pay".

Took ages for me to put all the products back on the exact shelves I got them from, and in date order.

PS. Reminds me of an old railway clerk, "Bomber Harris", who gave me a lot of very good advice when I was newly qualified as an accountant and started my professional life, all wet behind the ears, in an office at Waterloo Station, (where else indeed).

. . . . .Two of the most useless things in life are a mans breasts and a vote of thanks for the staff. . . .

+Matthew Baker yes its very strange that all the other scottish lowlander videos on youtube featuring 46233 and 60009 get hundreds of comments, and yet this being the rarest video gets ZERO comments, I will delete the video when it reaches 45 views

So, my video of 45699 climbing Lindal Bank has near-as-makes-no-difference 400 views on YouTube. It has no comments, and while I'll accept it's not the biggest railway channel on YT, it's by no means the smallest in terms of subscribers.

Does that mean I go posting messages around Nat Pres because no one's commented? No.

Does it mean I'm going to take down said video because no one's commented? No.

To further MrKnowwun's post (#404), you have a video, which I haven't watched yet because the video is being uploaded and deleted every day while I'm at work. Give it more than 24 hours on YouTube, and post the link around social media. That's how I have built up my subscribers on both channels, by promoting my videos wherever and whenever I can. If you're not on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, I'm sure there are many people on here who would be more than happy to post a link onto there for you. While I can't guarantee it'll produce more comments, it should raise the number of views. Views do not come instantly.

I thought the whole point of posting videos on YouTube was to a) raise the awareness of the great railtours of days gone by and b) share fantastic pieces of video with the enthusiast, and indeed wider, community. Apparently I'm wrong, it's now all down to 'who can get the most views'.

Thats a pity, I watched it last night, and was going to watch it and the others you uploaded over the last 6 months and put a comment on. Now I can't.

Could I suggest we go a little easy on the replies, I suspect that the behaviour and actions exhibited here are typical of Aspergers or Autism.

You could be well be right. I actually gave his last post a 'Like' but purely as a piece historic documentation.

THERE ARE VIDEOS OF 45699 ALL OVER THE INTERNET, WHERES THE FILM OF 46256, IVE SEEN NONE SO IT MUST BE RARE, AND IF I HAPPENED TO SEE IT I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY AND WOULD TELL THE UPLOADER THANKING THEM FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SHOW US FOR NOTHING,
WHAT IS THE COMMENT BOX FOR, MAYBE ITS JUST FOR SHOW, OR COULD IT BE THAT YOU FEEL A NEED TO TELL THE OWNER OF THE VIDEO THE VIDEO IS GREAT, IF THERE ARE NO COMMENTS THEY CANT BE BOTHERED ABOUT YOUR VIDEO, SO WITH THIS IN MIND I CANT BE BOTHERED WASTING TIME MAKING VIDEOS THAT PEOPLE JUST TAKE FOR GRANTED, TELL ME HOW MUCH YOU PAY TO GO BACK 50 YEARS AND SEE SOMETHING ALL OVER AGAIN?? I have a large collection of films
but im not wasting my time showing people who say nothing about what you have just done for them, they are ignorant and i cant be messing with idiots who take you for granted, let them upload the film if its that easy for them, im doing nothing more now, i have bestter thaings to do than waste time making videos for people who DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR RUBBISH VIDEOS thats what they say when they dont comment, why do others get 1000s of comments on a video they took last week with locos you can see anytime, and yet dont say a word when they see the ONLY VIDEO showing 46256, the answer, they dont like it, thats the real truth because they commented 1000s of time for what reason, THEY LIKED IT SO MUCH THEY HAD TO TELL THE UPLOADER HOW THEY FELT ABOUT THE VIDEO, IS THAT TRUE OR NOT, well then my videos are no worth commenting on if nobody comments, i know im right so stop telling me im wrong, i let the idiots get on with their comemnts of videos took last week, but im not putting any more of my film on youtube or anywhere else for that matter to just be pushed aside for showing films over 50 years old, and they prefer videos took last week, i say to them GET ON WITH IT THEN!!
