It doesn't seem to be switched off anymore as we are getting jerked about a fair bit when departing stations.

Yep. Maybe it's just where Tangmere goes but it's becoming a regular pattern that whilst you can make up a sentence with the words: 'steam, Tangmere, the, main line, on, with' it seems that you need to always also have the words 'diesel, plus' in the mix.:Grumpy:

Tangmere is a mangy disobedient old dog. And like any mutt like that, you don't let it out without a collar and chain - in case it refuses to walk to heel or runs away and never comes back. And like any old mangy disobedient dog, you gotta love its character.

Yes, that sounds like a three cylinder unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific for a change.

If the RTT time from Beaulieu Road, (RIP Lord Montagu), to Bournemouth is correct I would suspect rather a lot of diesel help. If not with a load equivalent to circa 13 cars that would have been a rather nice section to have timed!

Motoring nicely. Not seen many films of a down train going through there. Late on the 15th May 1965 would have seen 35005 pass through at 85 mph on the 21.20 ex Waterloo, 7 miles later we reached 105 mph before a fairly harsh braking regime to stop in Winchester. All three footplate crew are still with us: Driver Gordon Hooper, Fireman Dave Wilson and Brian Smith, loco inspector extraordinaire. The run gave the equivalent of somewhere around 66 minutes non stop Waterloo-Southampton! After the Winchester stop we got up to 83 mph before Allbrook Box and a signal stop between there and Eastleigh. Then a quick 70 before St Denys and a rather fast entry into Southampton. It's runs like that one that make it so hard for me to get enthusiastic about ever picking up my stopwatch again.

I'll wait until we get an on train report! Or a video of the climb up though Brockenhurst.

Going well and on time at Nursling after Redbridge this evening. DL on the back didn't even seem to be ticking over and certainly wasn't pushing. Do we have new rules, or rather enforcement of existing rules ie no pushing unless for a specific purpose? Loos like today might have been one to have been on. I have high hope sfor the WSE on 19th.

Looks like a very good time Basingstoke to Woking. If the DL was still dead then under 25 minutes with 500 tons is good going

Looking and sounding just as she should this evening as she accelerated away from Romsey Junction with an idling 47 on the rear.

We had a good day today on this trip. RTC & WCRC staff were very friendly and helpful as usual. 34067 seemed to be back on good form. She certainly sounded good, the best I have heard her operating on the ML. She looked good too, a credit to the support crew. Still not sure what was happening when we were leaving stations though as there was a fair bit of jerking to and fro and some rolling backwards. She certainly wasn't shoved out of Woking on the return run as I captured her departure on video. I will try and upload it soon.

Tangmere was doing this jerking and to and fro and rolling back on that Duchy trip, the first time I'd noticed it and Ray said she has never done that before when he had been driving her.

Nothing was felt up front! Probably the diesel rolling back when the brakes were released and then tangmere taking up the slack
