Probably nothing more suspicious than the works simply using up suplus supplies of blanks - no doubt Crewe cast such plates in their hundreds, and for a hidden identifier, not much point going to the expense and effort melting them all down and re-casting them from new patterns especially if the basic process of record keeping was unchanged.

I suspect a good number of locos, carriages and wagons emerged into the early 1950s with grouping-era axle box covers as well.

All 5 wheelsets were returned to Cranmore yesterday (26 Aug) following tyre turning and attention to journals and crank pins by South Devon Railway workshops.

The restoration of 41313 will is costing the Isle of Wight Steam Railway £145,000. We are fortunate in that we have been able to source £100,000 of the total, mainly from a very generous legacy, but urgently need to raise the remaining £45,000 to complete the work.

During September, a number of generous supporters have offered to match every pound donated to a total of £6,500. This means that every pound you give will bring in two pounds to the appeal!

Please support our Ivatt Double Donations Challenge. You can find further details at

    http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/ivatt-locomotive-appeal.aspx

All contributions will be gratefully received!

    Freshwater,
Any chance of the railway giving an update as we go through September as to how the Ivatt Double Donations Challenge is going please? I have already done my bit donation-wise and so have others. It be would be good to encourage more to donate too, given the generous matching offers in September. The progress at Cranmore is remarkable and we need to ensure that they can keep going.

    All the best,
    D1004

We have had a very encouraging start with over £3,400 donated in the first week - there is a short update on the website. Thanks to all who have donated so far - please keep the contributions coming in!

When all the money is in from our backers, the total will be past £15,000 which means we will be a third of the way to our £45,000 target. We are delighted with this tremendous start and there will be further updates on the website.

We are looking for a 4" (100mm) duplex air pressure gauge to be part of the air brake system for this loco. Please send me a PM if you have a suitable one available. Thanks Nick

Today (7/10/15) the frames were reunited with the 6 driving wheels. Pony trucks have yet to be fitted. The front one is nearly complete and a start was made on the back one today. For latest photos see:

Good news to report on the fundraising front! Although the Appeal only got going properly at the beginning of September, the total raised was around the £25,000 mark at the end of November, so we are over half way to our target of £45,000. Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Further details on the project and details of how to donate can be found here:

A quick update on 41313's overhaul, with some pictures, has just been published on the IWSR website.

On 200216 the front pony truck was attached back to the main body of the loco. The first picture shows a side on view and the second shows the pin where the A-frame is attached. uploadfromtaptalk1456044919842.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1456044934143.jpg
