That was the load she took to Cardiff in March and no diesel was used then so I'll be surprised if one is used this time as there's nothing as tough as Sapperton on the booked route.

It was actually 9 to Cardiff, 10 Oxford-Kingswear.

I thought it was 9 + POB to Cardiff but I stand to be corrected if it wasn't. I do know that we had a cracking climb up Sapperton on the way back.

Just received an email, being informed that 'The Peak Forester' has been (yet again) postponed, this time due to a proposed Steam ban in London. :(

Is that steam ban that has cancelled the Peak Forester a fire related or a West Coast operating steam south of York ban?

My money is on the latter....

Thought it was strange that it was considered a runner a couple of days ago.

Applied to WCRC only? DBS operated 60163 successfully last week.

That seems a bit strange. Any idea why they have applied that ban for this weekend only?

Is that a Waverley? There is also the complication of no stock already at York due to no SSE this summer plus the Dalesmans added, in a shorter consist.

And no steam locos at York either, though advertised as steam throughout.

Advertised as steam from York, but UK Steam is showing the one at the end of July as steam on at Hellifield, as per the Dalesman's at the moment.

Had the impression that steam took over at Hellifield, like the enforced arrangement last year. Makes sense if no steam loco based at York too.

The RTC website still says this =
" Our steam hauled train leaves York at 09:30 and heads for Church Fenton where we take the route to Leeds. We stop to pick up more passengers at Leeds, Shipley, Keighley, and Skipton. There will be a stop for our steam locomotive to take on water before we join the famous Settle & Carlisle Railway at Settle Junction "
