    Fair to say that if you are going to do that on any engine, 488 was not a bad choice. You certainly wouldn't be doing it on a 56xx!

    Once upon a time is was a fairly common practice for a fireman to sit on a buffer beam and sand the rails. 56XX excepted, I agree!
