Any news on loco allocations please? Assuming I'm looking in the right place, there doesn't appear to be any loco's against the timetabled trains on the ELR website. Thanks.

has the East Lancs had their line speed increased? the thrash to Heywood behind 44871 is certainly well above 25mph!

The weather fails to dampen spirits at the ELR’s winter steam gala.

The weather may have been a major hindrance around the country but the ELR’s gala went ahead as planned and was a great success!

Visiting for one weekend only was Black Five ‘45379’ from the Mid Hants Railway which proved to be a worthwhile addition to the home fleet comprising of three other engines as well as standard four ‘76084’ which is due to return to the North Norfolk Railway after its two month stay in Lancashire this week.

Sales Manager, Richard Barnett said: “The gala was a great success even with the cut down visitor list. We can also state that the sale of platform tickets did not affect ticket sales, and made a significant contribution towards the event.”

The gala itself was highly successful as enthusiasts travelled from far and wide to see the visitors. Figures were comparable to the January event which also saw high numbers descend on the line. Now attention turns to our Winter steam gala in October. It is hoped that we will be able to announce the Gala’s first visiting locomotive very soon.

Richard added: “The October gala is going to be something special. We are hoping to bring in a signature guest locomotive which will also star alongside the Crab which will be making its first gala appearance.”

Make a note in your diary: 18th & 19th October, a gala not to be missed!

Really enjoyed the visit on Saturday, starting / finishing at Rawtenstall to enjoy the 1620 express run from Bury to Rawtenstall non stop.

44871, 45379, 76084, 80080, WD132 all put on a good show, shame the timetable slipped in the afternoon cancelling the 15:10 shuttle, but other than that, top day out.

Jinty 47584 aka 47324 on the Bury area shuttle with Peckett 1370 "May" kept a busy feel about the place.

    Yes, looking forward to October.

What an enjoyable stay that was in Bury on Friday night. Attended both 3P20 charters, and most of the day's Steam Gala on Saturday, and was a perfect show! All photographs can be found here :

And in typical 21st Century Railwaymen fashion, a blog post telling of our visit, but very heavily focussed on the Tram Replacement Bus I was on being shot at! Yip, definitely an eventful weekend! : Welcome To The Wild North West - 21CR Blog

Very good event and ran to time as well on Sunday.
I went to the Saturday shoot at Burrs then went onto the CVR gala .. we all know the problems there, but still an enjoyable gala if you were not stuck on a train.
I came back on Sunday afternoon for a ride along the line with 44871 from Rawtenstall stopping off at Bury for a look around and continued onto Heywood and returned to Rawtenstall behind 45379. Both engines sounded great and gave a great run. I thought Bury station seemed quiet, but was it platform ticket prices or just the drizzly rain putting bums on seats in trains, only the ELR knows.

A couple of new albums here with a few pictures in each here - http://www.steamingnorth.com/

    cheers John
