Took a ride behind Witherslack Hall yesterday: splendid Blue bells trackside above Williton, huge teddy bear at Teddy Bear crossing, and most significant of all lots of tree planting in the "potato field" above Trible bridge. hopefully the latter...

  2. acorb liked martin1656's post in the thread Bridge that Gap: Great Central Railway News.

Having a long loop on the approach to the station makes sense, because it would enable a train to be held awaiting either a platform, or to head out over the viaduct, and enable either platform to be used. Or even to clear the road if you're...

  5. acorb liked Will RL's post in the thread 35028 Clan Line returns: 27/04/24.

The timing speed simply shows what's been asked for. I used D1015 as an example as it’s something I can relate to in 35028 also making its return and could share possible understanding. Ref the Western, discussions with the loco owning group and...

From Pathfinder email regards 'English Riviera Air Show', 1st June: "The train will be timed to run at 75mph with load 12 and a Class 50 on the rear for insurance. We are told that this will be common practice for every railtour with D1015...

I think we are all trying to make the same point but coming from slightly different angles! -No NR don't have a steam loco category, so use nearest comparable performance characteristic (diesel, trailing load 715t) -The maximum timing speed isn't...

  8. acorb replied to the thread 35028 Clan Line returns: 27/04/24.

Indeed, my response was a comment on @Will RL post that D1015 had slower timings on a recent trip. The majority of steam trips are timed at 60mph and 700 tonnes trailing weight to account for the slower acceleration performance compared to more...

  9. acorb replied to the thread Steam Dreams 2024.

Here, here!! When you consider that railtour passengers may not be 'railway regulars', it seems to be pretty poor for station staff to deliberately make life more difficult just because they are on a charter and not a service train. Does not...

  10. acorb liked free2grice's post in the thread Steam Dreams 2024.

Bristol Temple Meads is an example of a station that gives rail tour gen on it's information boards. It gives the platform, the expected arrival time and it regularly updates. If asked politely, the staff have always allowed me access to the...

  11. acorb replied to the thread 35028 Clan Line returns: 27/04/24.

I understand from the latest Pathfinder tours email that D1015 is now limited to 75mph rather than 90mph (owner's choice) and all her trips will now have a class 50 on the back for insurance - this may dictate the lower pathing speeds.

Just to add with the Fenchurch Train and indeed other locals we are a little limited as to what we can do with what coaches for a few reasons. Firstly the paid carriage cleaners (mentioned above) also doubled up as a majority of our paid...

At the end of the day, B'nth to HL is only 20 mins, even with a stop, most can cope with having to stand for that length of time. There were plenty of seats available at 07.55am on the Sunday! ;) Completely agree that Mk1s would have been totally...

  14. acorb liked Oswald T Wistle's post in the thread The Great Britain XVI - 13/04/24 to 21/04/24.

It's good to hear positive feedback from some of those who travelled - the one's who really matter. As RTC have acknowledged that the GB relies on a large team; many of them are unsung heroes (and heroines). I'd like to mention one particular...
