Agree totally, and wouldn't it be nice, not to say more professional if tour promoters put something more specific like this in their Ts and Cs ?

If you were able to glean this info from NR it's clearly not a secret so why haven't the promoters shared it with us previously ? No doubt the "apologists" on here will declare it none of our business !

You did say you had to "force" the comment out of them though so the info obviously wasn't shared willingly, albeit not strictly secret or in any way confidential..

Agree about your first point. To be fair though I think you do get something in the small print along the lines of "On the day Network Rail may change arrangements". But I'm certain that Jo Public will be unaware of what might happen to their day out if NR has problems with their normal services.

On the second point, what I've posted is what I've concluded from their email - it's not their wording. I hadn't realised that even when steam is in its path it may be pushed to one side. And nothing is sacrosanct. Thinking about it I recall that I was on an Orient Express trip to Bath and despite arriving on time at Heywood Road Junction we were held on the curve for a late running cross country stopping service that we then followed putting us about 15 late into Bath

Absolutely right on the first point hence the need for greater clarity in the wording of Ts and Cs rather than statements that could be classed as ambiguous.

Understand those were your "conclusions", and in theory NR may have meant something different but I'm sure you've captured the essence of it.

If VSOE can be sidelined then clearly any tour can, and I think that brings us back to the question of why service train TOCs enjoy a better service from NR than those of charters. I don't know if there's anything in writing that states NR are allowed to manipulate paths etc to satisfy some TOCs at the expense of others or if this is just been accepted that is how things are. I do know there have been calls on here for charter TOCs to be more vocal with NR on this, but of course the "politics" of the real world will usually see to it this doesn't happen !
