Not disputing the loss of insects, but surely aerodynamics are a factor here. Modern vehicles are much more streamlined nowadays, and insects are more likely to get stunned in the airflow and end up on the road. Birds have sussed this, particularly the Corvids, as you will often see them on the hard shoulder of motorways stuffing their faces.

Is that a Royal Scot in the background auditioning for the role of future Flying Scotsman? ;)

Or a starring role in a future Thomas the Tank Engine book?

I was more taken aback by the blatant inaccuracies!

That’s not Coronation Scot, and the train of that name did not run nonstop.

This is the NRM, guardian of our rail history ffs.

I wonder if you would get any response if you pointed out the glaring error to them?

It says a lot about the current state of the NRM that it needs to be pointed out.

I have just read in Railway Magazine that Sir Peter Hendy has joined the NRM Advisory Board. Can this be true, a railwayman advising a tarted-up cafe? :Caffeinefix:
    Very strange.

“We said goodbye to North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) No.1 last week, as it left for its new home at Locomotion.

In its day, this fascinating little battery loco could run for up to six hours and haul a load of more than four times its weight at 11mph, on one charge! Not bad for an early EV.”

    Hi,

Chris Valkoinen (who works at NRM) has recently posted the following on the railc mailing list. Since he does say "please spread the word to those you think would be interested." I don't suppose he would mind my copying it here.

"Subject: [railc] NRM Swindon C&W Drawing catalogue released

It's been a long time coming put I am pleased to announce that the catalogue of drawings in the National Railway Museum's Swindon collection has been released. It includes 17000 C&W drawings (sure to be of interest to members of this group) as well as steam loco, diesel hydraulic and road vehicle drawings. In total an extra 27000 drawings listed on line, so please spread the word to those you think would be interested. The lists are available in the usual place: https://www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/research-and-archive/further-resources/catalogues

A selection of scans from the collection are also available online and this will be growing over time. See https://collection.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/documents/aa110128189/swindon-works-drawings

Visits can be arranged to view and photograph the drawings in Search Engine (subject to the usual copyright restrictions), but please book well in advance of a visit. The C&W drawings are often in poor condition (Swindon loved to use tracing paper!) so there will be some instances where drawings cannot be made available. High res scans can also be requested through the copy service.
If anyone has questions, feel free to fire them my way.

    Chris Valkoinen"

In the three pictures in that press release nothing shows it to be at all connected to railways, could be a new school. university building or medical facilities.

    I'm not holding my breath...............................
