Was Avonside loco 1563 once at a site somewhere in the Wigan area where the platform consisted of graveyard headstones ?

Bob, the short answer is I don't know. I do know it spent its early preservation days at Pemberton Disposal Point which is near Wigan, then on a pub car park somewhere in the vicinity and finally moved to Astley Green Colliery before it's move to Foxfield.

Thanks Nigel, I remember now, it was Pemberton where I saw it. It must have been 1969 or 1970.

Don't forget that VCT is sending BELLEROPHON on his holidays in April and may this year. The loco runs at Lincs Wolds railway in April and then goes to Loughborough in may for their old engines weekend. As the engine was built in 1874, I expect it will the oldest loco in steam at both places!

If anyone is about in Leatherhead tomorrow watch out for delays around late morning as Hawthorn Leslie 3837 moves to her home at the Lavender Line. She should be heading east on the M25 by lunchtime.

A successful move was made by Hawthorn Leslie 3837 on Monday 14th arriving at her new home, the Lavender Line by mid afternoon. All we have to do now is raise lots of money to see her steam again! Any donations welcome.
Also if anyone knows of any parts that came off this loco and may be available please let us know.

The message below was posted on the Heritage Railways section but I thought it could also usefully go here. The information isn't quite right, it didn't work for British Railways but was tested on BR lines from Swindon when first modified with a gas producer firebox. It then went to Glasshoughton Coking Plant and worked there until the early 1970s. The restoration has converted it back to a standard austerity.

"The 0-6-0ST Austerity loco No.3883, known as ‘Lord Phil’ will be arriving at Peak Rail on April 1, ready to work trains over the Easter weekend and through the season. The loco is privately-owned and has just completed a full overhaul at its maker’s, Hunslet Steam Company. Now, “as good as new”, Lord Phil comes to Peak Rail on a long-term agreement and will soon be a regular sight on Peak Rail services between Matlock Riverside, Darley Dale and Rowsley South.

Lord Phil, originally HE2868 and Coal Products No.6, was built in 1943 and modified in 1962 after which it worked for British Rail in Swindon. It was purchased from the Rutland Railway Museum in 2008.

Pity - it would be good to see one running in gas producer mode.

Some more work has been carried out on Manning 1795. Work focusing on painting jobs and building the new cab.
The website for the loco has been updated, with new archive images in the gallery, and news on the restoration pages.

Don't be a dick. Stereotyping isn't funny. You ever been to Liverpool?

Anyway, he said Liverpool Road, Manchester.

Work has progressed steadily since Manning Wardle 2009 Rhyl was moved into the workshop at Ruddington, Great Central Railway. The frame is jacked up for work on horns and axleboxes in preparation for rewheeling, new footplate valance angles have been fitted and new footplating to follow. The cab has been dismantled and the platework repaired ready for reassembly. Brackets for pipework for brake systems and steam heat has been fitted and pipework will follow.

Not a lot, all efforts going into 2009, however, have sorted out the design of a cylinder borer as both cylinders and valve chests will need boring, also started on componet sorting cleaning and painting. I saw 3855's tender under repair last summer, how is the rest of it going?
