Just had a really good day at the Mid Hants, like tom92240 I missed 60019 departing Waterloo (well I saw the 37 on the back start moving away).. will post here shortly.

The final word I received was from a SWT guard on the Alton service, was a broken rail was detected upon departure and so the train was brought to a stand, wasnt allowed to move until it had been repaired. Additionally as there was people on the ground the electric rail was isolated closing the 3 platforms.
There was delay in obtaining NR engineers to the site...

again this was a SWT guard telling me this so take it as you will, but it sounds plausible.

Given the events of my weekend.. 90 minutes to get from Waterloo to Canary Wharf (jubilee line closed, DLR failed, and even the local buses diverted..I am of the opinion the witches of halloween have cursed londons transport this weekend... off for a Cuppa.

ps. 73096 and 92240 looked great at the MHR (though 73096 did have to shunt a coach from it's train as it had a wheel flat, delaying the 1pm return from Alresford).

Don't worry Swanny you weren't in the way. (Cracking shot by the way) But my Father decided to walk in front of my video camera as I filmed 60019 passing through!

Thanks to the great effort put in by the diesel, this tour is now on its way back and running to time...

Passed slowly through Bristol Temple Meads, had to wait for Worcester train to arrive. Was more or less on time.

I think this tour was originally planned for 70000, which I think is less powerful than an A4.

UK Steam originally had 70000 + TBA implying two steam locos double heading. A4 plus TBA would have been brilliant.

Just got a text saying on time Nailsea, also states box still pushing hard. Why? Now that it is basically back on schedule. Can't blame late running now.

no excuse for the 37 to be pushing like mad at the rear. <BJ>

Here's mine from Waterloo this am..

Looking at the pictures closely it would appear that some "orange jacket" activity was taking place under the buffet car.

When I posted this morning that I had read a report that 60019 had "failed" I should have left out the bit that said failed as it was speculation on the part of the original poster. I dont want to cast aspertions on any loco so should have waited until the correct explanation was forthcoming. Im glad the tour went ahead and 60019 appears to be back on form.

A mate of mine has reported on Facebook that the train ran through a set of points and he has spent 9 hours fixing them today...

    Regards,

Well you can reminisce, but by my experience of the 50's and 60's, your interpretation is wrong, 75mph running was the exception, not the norm. Yes certain expresses did exceed that, but even those tended to run at 75, however the vast majority ambled along in the 60's.

:) That's probably because you were used to trains running on a region stuck in the Edwardian period!

Not much has changed then. Coming back from Lime Street after a recent steam tour the Norhern Rail Class 150 trundled along in the 50's occasionally breeching the 60 mph mark. Curiosity and the GPS was the motivation.

With the diesel working hard on the return leg I wonder if all was well with Bittern. On arrival at Paddington a lot of attention was focussed on the RH motion.
