Looking on UKsteam, it looks like 44871 is booked on what I assume are test runs on the 21st & 22nd of December. They are only provisional bookings at the moment.

The "out of the frames" steam test is a big milestone, but there's lots still to do. IR & his gang will need their work cut out to get her ready for the main-line test in 4 weeks. Still, the fat lady is in her dressing room and warming up her voice...

Well if Tyseley can do it with Rood Ashton... that was 4 weeks from out of frames steaming to mainline test wasn't it?

I see it's coming out 1950's style this time...

    it'll match 45407 nicely.

Dont think it's run in preservation with a Lion on Wheel before has it ?

so are any of the 2010 Black 5's going to come out in just plain black, or lined cab and plain black tender perhaps ?,

it'll be nice to see 44932, 44871, 45407, 45305, 45231, 44767, 45337, 44806 and 45379 all running in 2010, but after all in the same colour scheme it'll be in danger of looking very 60's after a while :)..

how will 5 black 5's (45407, 44871, 45305, 44932, 45231 all compete for work on the mainline ?) unless of course someone does a "plandampf" weekend based from Carnforth ?..Morecambe, Barrow, Preston, Carlilse, Hellifield routes perhaps ? :)

Once the weather settles down wouldn't it be a nice gesture to run a Carnforth - Barrow - Carlisle Black 5 PlanDampf to work all passenger services over a weekend ( Saturday - Sunday ). I'm sure that WCRC would be happy to host the locomotives and the event should attract lots of enthusiasts and generate both support and income for the local economy.

Perhaps might be worth considering as a January Weekend event ? ?

Driver No its a diesel engine

    Diesel Fan How the...

Driver You know those minuture railways which feature a small petrol locomoivte with a fake steam outline as a body...

    End of Scene

Maybe this would work as the thin edge of the wedge to get Bluebell Railway people intreseted in diesels!!!!!

Has anyone got the nerve to do one in Apple green with BRITISH RAILWAYS on the tender? would be different. Actually lined LMS black would be a welcome return, how I remember them when I was a kid.... mid 1990s!

I believe the plan is to have her moving about Buckley Wells today and depending on how that goes take it from there.

Ian's said on the Other Side that the early shift were in at 3am this morning to remove the brick arch formers and drag her out, and the 'late' shift were in at 6am to continue with getting her up to pressure!

I think in the not too distant future that 1 Heritage Railway will hold a mega 'Black Five' Gala. Would certainly bring all the LMS enthusiasts together.

Surely can't be right, a 5 on the equivelant of about load 14 ?!, if the diesel was under power woulden't it defeat the point of a test run ?.
