I think I'm correct in saying that the FSI does not take into account the use of steam locomotives but refers to the general conditions and relies on individual heritage railways making the correct decision depending upon their own local circumstances. Whilst I'd MUCH rather a steam loco be used for the enjoyment of both passengers AND staff, I'd prefer the Gwili and other railways err on the side of caution in the current conditions. Any fire occurring would be AWFUL for all the fire service personnel. Mark you a lot of heavy rain in the next 48 hours could totally change the perspective. I'm sure the Gwili management will return to steam ASAP.

Good amount of heavy rain across South & Mid-Wales this morning.

 

Any update on whether steam is planned for the BH weekend? We're in Pembrokeshire from tomorrow and will ride on Monday if steam is operating.

 

yes, we expect that steam will return on Sunday with Haulwen doing the honours.

I was thinking when all the roads in Abergwili are done you would be able to get quite the line up photo, will it be 6 roads?

Some activity at the northern end as the track bed between Conwil station and Bridge 10 is cleared. Hopefully more news on this front soon.

 

That first image seems to show a bridge? If so, I wonder what shape it's in; is it a stone/masonry construct, which time/water won't much damage, or is there more iron than just the railings?

More progress on road 2

 

it’s the stone arch bridge before the station. The arch is generally sound but as might be expected some of the masonry requires attention.

 

These pictures are so exciting. Stone bridges, while needing repairs shouldn’t be quite as expensive as bridge 10 I’d guess. Either way this is exciting stuff. We really enjoyed our trip last weekend. Having the prairie running round at Llwyfan really did take me back. The new signal box is excellent and the children had a go at pulling the leavers. A great day had by all. Utilised the bar on the train and the tea shop and a few things in the shop. The railway seems to be doing a great job at secondary spend!
