Thanks, hadn't realised S100 was at Peak as well as S102. Has S100 run in preservation? I remember it being at YDR but thats nearly 50 years ago, probably straight out of NCB service .

I believe it moved a a few years ago from Chasewater, after Mark Sealey became GM. It'll be ready next year I was told, but that was over 15 years ago! I understand a lot of parts disappeared when the old shed at Chasewater got demolished to make way for the M6 toll road.

Well if it is finished soon there'll be a scope for a PLA class event with S102 and 1857, currently at WSR. There's also 'Firefly' at Meldon but that seems to have gone off the radar somewhat ....

Firefly is still progressing quietly I think. Newtons supplied a new inner firebox and girders for it in the last couple of years or so. Like most locos, it will be done when it's done!

Been a while since I last updated but things nice n steadily progressing, the new trackwork into the top of the car park for the new unloading / loading area and the bay platform is in, still wants some ballasting and the bay platform building.

the footbridge column bases at darley are in.and erection is starting, there’s a lot of work on the riveting of the stair pieces under way.

Signalling wise, two seperate fronts, Rowsley box is having a door end rebuild (typical midland boxes) and the shed gang progressing nicely with the new trident signal for entering Rowsley to signal the loop, main and bay platforms, others for the station end are also being built, there also a triple doll for shunting from same.

pway are busy with foot crossing and block joint renewal jobs, a new siding off the turntable has been laid for the freight set, the sleeping coach restoration continues , new steps have been fabricated up for the sleeping coach for better access.

the station buildings at Rowsley have had a lot of repainting work into maroon and cream by the gang, and there’s other bits going on I’ve already forgotten. IMG_3616.jpeg

its a tad warm, but you already know that

Only a small update this week.

work on Rowsley box continues, what started as change a few outside boards under the top window became remove half an end wall and rebuild, typical of midland boxes where the door meets the outside stairs you get water ingress, anyhow after what’s currently four days of work so far weve only got one window left to put back in once it’s been rebuilt by our LMSca colleagues (rebuild is an understatement….its more like triggers broom)

work on the footbridge, trackwork in the bay line continues and new lineside farmers gates down the line all recent work, I think the Ashover gang are busy rebuilding waggons or coaches as I helped the delivery drivers drop off a load of timber for them yesterday.

toms finishing off the trident signal outside and its base has been cast ready for erection soon.

and now it’s cooling down hopefully we’re not going to be slowly cooked out there in railway land

anyhow have a good weekend folks

It’s been a few months since the last update, with the running season going on this isn’t unexpected, but no news is good news in this case so here’s some tidbits-

The remaining columns for the up platform and miscellaneous have been delivered from the engineering company, these were needed for more measurements and mock-ups for the landings and joining plates, the only piece still being worked on is the bridge span itself. Installation of these columns will come soon but an extension to the platform is on the cards and will coincide with this work, this will bring the platform back to its original length and hide the concrete pad which is nice to hear. The platforms are gritstone blocks, as is the vernacular round here, so not a cheap or easy task to find suitable material.

Meanwhile the mammoth task of riveting has taken place on the stair pieces, it’s taken a long old while to get here as every hole needed reaming out to a few set sizes, 2500 rivets were purchased, close to 1000 have been done so far.

Lovely progress, outside of the long rivet march, the next big thing may be the fitting of one of the staircases on the down platform.

Up platform padstones and columns now in place, as mentioned previously, the concrete slab will be hidden by the re-extended platform length. Some stones have been removed from the platform slope in preparation for this.
