News on this loco seems to have gone very quiet, can anyone share its current status and whether she will ever grace the mainline again. Pretty sure a couple of years ago she was close to being steamed after major boiler work and new cylinders etc.

She went LSL for "auditing" of the work that was done on the loco (read into it what you will around the reasons behind that), and I don't believe much has happened to the loco itself since. In the meantime, the 6024 Preservation Society has been dissolved.

She did actually steam and run in 2022, so the boiler clock is ticking... but it's up to LSL what happens.

As of a few years ago there seemed a good prospect of two Kings running on the main line. Now both are out of action completely.

I fear we may not see a King on the mainline again, its frankly peculiar how much money LSL seem to have spent on 6024 without apparently monitoring the works which were being done.

I share your fears. Whilst not being a GWR man I do admire the King as a proper class 8 loco. Let’s hope LSL are working behind the scenes on it but I don’t hold out much hope. 6024 along with 5029 are ideal for the English Riviera Express. Hopefully both will run on the mainline again at some point.

A pretty good video has appeared in the last hour including a behind the scenes tour of LSL which covers their locos, including a quick look at KEI... they're saying 12 to 18 months. We will see!

Thanks for this, very interesting. Thought all the people from LSL came across really well, the Interviewer less so instead rather emphasising its advertorial nature.

Being a member of the now defunct 6024 society I have to say that I am still not very impressed with the way the King was "taken" away from the team that were carrying out the overhaul.

I'm sure it felt like a kick in the proverbials, I certainly would not have been a happy bunny at the state of affairs.

Whilst I appreciate the anger you must feel, with the present circumstances and future of the engine unknown until this video, it is good to know it seems like 6024 will be back within the next two years.

Trouble is we don’t know the whole story and there are almost certainly two sides .

Didn't a similar thing happen with ex LNER B1 61306 when it was at Carnforth many, many, years ago?

I suspect there are actually 3, those of the two parties involved and then the actual truth.....

In the latest Green Signals Video - there are Aug 25 shots of 6024 in pieces - boiler off and wheels out... so at least it is being worked on

But wasn't this an freshly overhauled engine, ? clearly, some aspects of the overhaul, did not meet what Crewe expected then,

So LSL/RSLT or whoever owns 6024 have paid someone to overhaul her which reached a stage of I assume a successful boiler certificate as she was running about the yard at the WSR but now she apparently needs boiler off and frames lifted works, either something doesn't add up or someone has dropped the wotsit of all wotsits in overseeing the overhaul at the locomotive ownership end.....

Maybe, or maybe they just like to do things their own way.
QANTAS (even when we owned 28% of them) would never except a BA overhauled engine (except on a get you home basis) as they claimed the overhaul did not meet their "Gold Standard". Rest of the world seemed to have no issues.

That would be understandable if LSL had only just taken ownership of it, but they've owned it and been funding its restoration for some years now.
