Well whatever the Caley Tank does, let's hope it's a bit more than what 85 did when it came.
Passenger shuttles haven't been a feature of NYMR galas for a number of years now, which is a shame. The timetable used has been pretty much the same for the last few years and could do with a bit of a freshen up in my opinion. I appreciate there is only so much that can be done, but a bit of variety would enhance things.

55189 is a working exhibit from a nationally accredited museum collection, arguably second only to the NRM. It won’t be getting “thrashed” anywhere.

I'm in general agreement with you, but I think the I'd argue the point about "second only to the NRM". I think Didcot, for example, might be in contention for that honour, as possibly might the SVR, for the different breadths of their collections.

I did say ‘arguably’. Please correct me if wrong, but don’t believe that the Severn Valley Railway is an accredited museum?

Always going to be subjective, and whilst I’d readily admit that Didcot might have a wider collection of steam locomotives, the extent of the MoSR collection (e.g., largest collection of signalling equipment in the U.K., locomotives and carriages from the 19th century through to those in service until the 2020s) is significant.

Personal opinion, I'm glad they pulled the diner on the gala.

Looks likely given those timings. Could be a squeeze on that saloon!
No day time shuttle for the Caley to play with, shame. :-(

What about the Sunday timetable? Ex-Grosmont 09.10, 12.20, 14.45 and Ex-Goathland 10.10, 13.24, 15.38. Not freights, they are down Pickering end that day, perhaps with the J27/Lambton? All will out.

They are the times of the Whitby trains, so will be too many coaches for the Caley I would suspect.

According to the top of the time table the Whitby trains are being operated as shuttles to Grosmont and return from platform one, change trains at Grosmont. The Whitby trains will run accordingly and not necessarily connect with the Moors line if they are running late. Go read. The Goathland shuttles also don't connect with all the Whitby trains.
Perhaps you have a different timetable than me? :D

That's what I get for looking at them on my phone rather than a computer!
Be interesting to see how it works with the non enthusiast passengers from Pick wanting a day out in Whitby if connections aren't guaranteed. Let's hope it isn't chucking it down too, when they have to change trains at Grosmont.
Fingers crossed for a chance to ride the Caley on its own passenger train tho.

It's really the only way to work it on Galas, given the liklihood of delays (however unintentional they always seem to occur on Gala Days) there isn't the slack on the esk valley line to hold NYM trains on the branch for a connection without severely impacting the Northern service. There's always the tearoom after all!

Don't believe it has gone on the NYMR website yet or been mentioned here but the NYMR Facebook event page yesterday shared:
"Anyone need a lift? Join us for our 50th Anniversary Steam Gala 21-24 September and see our Steam Crane in action on Thursday and Friday, 10am to 2pm up at Grosmont Engine Sheds."

From a Facebook post today (pasted below in italics) - on Friday evening it'll be Lucie, nothing mentioned about Saturday as yet.

Thursday noted as "visiting engine" day although don't think from comments elsewhere that 60007 arrives until some point Thursday so would assume that won't play a part?

"Thursday will be visiting Engine day with the visitors mainly out on Service and additional freight trains.
For the first time passengers will be able to ride behind Lucy at the NYMR with shuttle runs between Goathland and Grosmont on the Friday Evening on the Great Western Saloon. (limited Seating and no food or drink will be allowed on board)
There is an A4 day where Sir Nigel Gresley will do three full round trips.
9F day where visiting loco No. 92214 will be paired with the NYMR’s No.92134
On the Sunday we will once again recreate the opening day train with J27 and No.29 double heading for two round trips."

Silly question probably, does my rover ticket include trips to Whitby, the flysheet/timetable appears to suggest so, thanks?

Will John Hunt's book on the anniversary be ready and on sale along the line, please, thanks?

I ‘think’ I saw it in the shop at Pickering Station during my last visit in early August.

Yes the rover ticket also includes the Whitby Shuttles, and adding to an earlier post from MrDibbs it is not just the risk of NYMR delaying Northern trains but equally the risk Northern trains delaying NYMR trains!
