One assumes that projects do some element of feasibility study before commencing!

It was booked, but overhaul wasn't finished in time. Hopefully will be visiting fairly soon

A factor which I think should be taken into consideration is are there any pre existing parts? This was a big bonus for the Atlantic, as they had a boiler, the same goes for some of the GWR ones, and, as far as I know, the GCR 4-4-0

I'm surprised that no one has suggested a Dean goods from the spare GWR boiler that was claimed to be kicking about a couple of years ago. Would be ideal, small wheeled, something a bit different and powerful enough for most lines.

Why is it I get the feeling if 32424 were being built across the Solent Our Correspondent from Hayling Island would be rather happy to justify its construction over there?
Paul, you do make some valid points at some times, but you are very much guilty of double standards at others.
At the end of the day a group of people have pulled their finger out their backside’s and tried to right what they think is a wrong. Same as those involved with 60163, 82045, 6880 etc
If you don’t like it, nobody’s forcing you to open your wallet, but maybe just show a little more respect to those taking their time to do something rather special with their time.

Has anyone ever suggested using the dismantled remains of Jinty 47564 at Butterley as the basis for a Midland 3F?

Most income is derived from ''normals'' and not lococentric gricers.

There is a heritage railway with 6.6kV ac OHLE - but it's metre-gauge:

Just because your “perfect” railway doesn’t have larger locos, that doesn’t mean normals don’t want to experience them. Ask a normal if they would prefer something like Flying Scotsman or a Jinty*.

    *no slur intended against Jinties!

Are any new builds sensible anymore with the way coal and fuel prices have shot up?

Which has been discussed ad nauseam, and your simplistic nostrums about size as the be all and end all thoroughly debunked.

Taking 5 coaches up the bank to Ipstones needs a bit more than a small tank engine, so there probably a need for medium sized freight loco.

Really? So why does it generate record business wherever it goes?
