Despite the state giving them €1.2million last year, staff haven't been paid for the last two months and it looks like the company could go into administration very shortly. Services are meant to restart next month but that currently looks very unlikely.

    Hi everyone!
Sad news about the current situation of the Achenseebahn. I worked there last year and fired what seems to be the last train up to the lake...
I would like to encourage you, in this corona-lockdown, to take the time and sign the petition to save this beautiful railway - the oldest steam operated cog-wheel line in the world. My good friend and driver at the Achenseebahn Jo Steger published the petition on the following link:

Solidarity is important, now more than ever!
    Keep safe!

It’s beautiful indeed.... Regretfully I learned today that the railway was declared insolvent, and therefore may be closed for ever.
Some have even envisaged a cable car solution as an alternative to the railway... Anyway, it’s a pity (shame?) to scrap 130 years of local history like that.

    Thanks for your support!

It really is a lovely line & very friendly. Over 20 years since my visit, but fond memories including sitting up front with the guard who waved to his wife as he passed his house; clearly the railway was more than just a job. I hope the line survives this crisis.

Likewise, fond memories of the line from visits in 1987 and 2015. Something slightly unreal about the operation which was bypassed by the passage of time. So relaxed and friendly.

    Cheers, Neil

Terrible news. I always say to my wife that I want to retire to Jenbach. Steam on both sides of the station. Petition signed.

One might hope that the Zillertalbahn buys it cheap, if nobody else invests in the railway...

Here’s a pic from the last day of operation in 2019. Newly restored locomotive no.3 and green carriage with “bar-wagon” minutes away from departing from Jenbach on the 28th of October.

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

A bar wagon! Even more reason to visit once it’s reopened. :)

A bar wagon? Your drink will be always shaked, not stirred ;) ! The new rolling stock demands a new visit!

The last news I got said that Tirol will found again the line. Can someone from there confirm?

I had a drive up there this morning. Bad news, no service. Good news, lots of track renewal with good quality sub base, concrete sleepers and new rail. IMG20210912084130.jpg

Go a take a look on the sleepers. Those near the lake station bear a strange symbol, strange for an Austrian railway and for a narrow gauge one...

I did not notice those. I was too taken by the view across the lake. The other picture shows some of the other relaying work underway. IMG20210912084148.jpg IMG20210912084705.jpg

    Guess why :D?

These strange sleepers are close to the terminus.
