Dado rails don't normally have the groove needed for picture hooks.

    Awards for the GWSR

We are pleased to announce that we have won the Heritage Railway Association's "Steam Railway" magazine award for the extension to Broadway and the reconstruction of the station. The award is to be presented this Saturday at the HRA annual dinner.

Additionally we have today been told we have won the SME (Small and Medium Sized Enterprises) award as Best Tourist Attraction in the South West 2019.

    Regards,
    Colin Fewell

    Commercial Director

    Fantastic news and richly deserved.

Perhaps the HRA could introduce a new award for the best maintained Heritage Railway blog or series of blogs.

The GWSR would win this hands down on an annual basis!

Now to more pressing concerns, about that picture rail..................

Congratulation to the G&SWR. It has been an exciting time for everyone connected with the line.

As an aside SR is often mentioned by some on NP for inaccurate reporting, it seems SR's geography is suspect as well. The line is not in the South West but West of England!

For those concerned about the final fit out of the cafe I have good news.

I have exchanged emails with the Chairman Richard Johnson and he has assured me that the time frame for the completion of Broadway Station is 3-4 years and that its final appearance should be judged then.

There is a lot of time pressure to complete the Cafe and associated facilities in time for the new season, and half the Broadway team are slab laying at Toddington.

The white power sockets are temporary and were all that was to hand when power tools needed to be used imminently. The intention is to remove them in due course.

Hopefully when the time pressure is off, perhaps next closed season, the other desirable details such as coving, picture rails, radiator covers can be added.

In the meantime I would urge everyone who visits Broadway to visit the new Cafe and spend freely. If it washes its face as a business it is more likely to have money spent on its decoration.

Perhaps if management, of various railways, were a little more forthcoming in communicating with shareholders, volunteers, etc, speculation may not be quite so damaging. Although life on the forums would be somewhat quieter.

    Great news:

The GWSR's extension to Broadway has won two awards at the HRA's 2019 awards ceremony.

Read all about it in the Extension Blog:
    https://broadwayextensionblog.blogspot.com/2019/02/a-visit-to-birmingham.html

I hope this will persuade the doubters that quality is worth it, and that we should honour the GWR Trust's objective: To create and maintain a railway museum for the benefit of the public.

We're on a roll now. Now to finish the footbridge and erect the P2 building and canopy, even better than P1.

It's nice to see the HRA getting their award choices right for a change and the one for the GWSR is well deserved. It's also good to see the GWSR management in touch with what is going on with restoration work and keeping in touch with its supporters.

Well done to all for producing such an award winning result that is Broadway. All is not finished yet though and I look forward to the continued development of the station and I am sure that this will continue to capture every bodies interest as the footsteps, P1 canopy extension, P2 foundation, P2 building and roof come to fruition over the coming years. Surely with the standard of work being produced more awards will be forthcoming.

Dare I mention going north? A reproduction of Willersey Halt is a gem just asking to be done.

    Regards PaulK
