Two of the coaches at Didcot have been attacked by paint vandals and it looks like they went across two running lines and cut through a fence to get in. https://www.instagram.com/p/BgO-IF5FWQF/

Hopefully there is some CCTV in the area that may have captured images?

Oh bloody hell .... not again! I suppose we have to count our blessings that at least the stock wasn't torched on this occasion.

CCTV is an expensive means of (maybe) identifying culprits after the event, but still does nothing to prevent this sort of mindless vandalism in the first place. The best chance of apprehending the perpetrators probably lies with an expert in the "tagging" sub-culture.

To be honest if they're going to cut across live high speed lines and then get over a six foot fence (assuming they came in nearest the damaged carriage) there isn't a lot going to keep them out (short of making it an electric fence). I'd hope that because of the trespass on active lines aspect, BTP might take a trespass interest as well as the vandalism.

Stupid little sods - if they're so keen to paint something I'm sure their talents could be put to good use if only they could be bothered.

That's easy, connect it to the 25kv overhead supply.

...and CCTV is easily defeated by a hoodie and a cap, or a balaclava.

Indeed ..... though successful prosecutions before any crime has occured tend to be legally problematic. Point being, with my 'tag identification' suggestion, these numpties are overwhelmingly serial offenders and returns to a prime target seen as an easy mark are, unfortunately, common enough.

I feel obliged to point out to @buseng that 25kV may be seen by some as overkill when 415v 3-phase would be quite sufficient, but do find myself tempted by the possibility of employing a pack of slavering rottweilers, which would do the job just as well, plus being a damned sight more entertaining when played back.

The junkyard dog, once seen chewing the head restraints off a wheel-less Astra estate used as its kennel before running around the yard with a bumper in its mouth kind of dog?

Trouble is, an attack by the dog(s) would then lead to claims for compensation.

That's the one! I'll admit, there are a one or two legal issues to clarify, in order to be on the right side of the law. Foxes, however, being classified as wild native animals, aren't subject to the sort of lawyer-enriching issues associated with creatures legally defined as 'domestic'. This might provide a solution ..... if only someone could do the impossible and train 'em without anyone realising it!

More seriously, I'm sure I'm not alone in giving non-lethal, reasonably priced technological solutions a think.

I wonder if its someone local - someone who knows enough about the goings on there, to know that at weekends there are regularly people sleeping there, hence choosing a Thursday night to do it rather than Friday to Sunday. You'd also need to spend a bit of time figuring out how to get in - its not the sort of place that a bit of time walking around it will find a weak spot in a mesh fence in a hurry. The side facing the avoiding line all had brand new palisade fencing put up when they started electrification.

this is why it is such folly to make a hero out of people like Banksy. It's criminal damage at every level and should be persued as such.

When I taught in Toxteth a group of kids repeatedly broke into a warehouse on the Dock Rd. by feeding the guard dogs. The company replaced the dogs with a flock of particularly noisy and aggressive geese. Result: break-ins ceased.

It was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek.
