i dont know so much, both engines have had their very dark episodes recently and to see both now hopefully restored to health has to be a good point.

Excellent, Scotsman is back, I was two years old the last time I saw it in steam, hope to see it again soon
On another note I like that NE black livery, BUT it has to be said there is only one livery for 4472(hint) and that's LNER Apple Green, not the BR Brunswick it's due to be painted :(

Talking over overshadowing, I wonder if we'll get anyone looking at 35006 on its first test runs thinking its 4472 having read the papers given both are big brunswick green engines returning to steam...

Anyway, it's fantastic news. It does look smart in black, but given it's spent the last miserable 10 years wearing it perhaps time for something new. I don't have a problem with the livery, makes sense on the mainline, but it would have been nice to see the apple green with the SVR's teaks next Autumn. I'm sure we'll see that at some point though. (Or perhaps have a heritage railway one painted in apple green made up from all the bits no longer on 4472, can't be that many extra bits you'd need to make...)

For me it's perfect, my home city has both strong LNER and LMS ties so for me having both in the spotlight is fantastic, but in my heart of hearts I'm an LMS man, so I'm team Royal Scot ;)

I like to live dangerously ;)
Apple green is my favourite livery, beats Crimson lake( blasphemy I know) but I mean LMS in terms of design, the LNER has nothing on the mighty 'black five', now, if only I could convince someone to have an 'apple green five', that would be perfection :)

Weren't one of the black 5s painted in apple green during the BR livery trials? Anyway, everybody knows the best livery is Madder lake, just to pick a slightly different shade.

The V2 is certainly a powerful and impressive locomotive, the reason I love the 5 so much is 45407 saved my first ever railtour after the advertised motive power( I forget what it was now) was no longer available, so I guess I'm biased, not doubting the LNER at all, I do though prefer the less glamorous of their engines, give me a J39 or A5 over the V2 whilst it remains impressive

Of course, nothing a Black 5 can do that an S15 can't do better ... ;)

    But I suspect we digress...

I doubt a 5 could do it without 6 of them on the back, giving the one on the front a shove.......... o_O

:D A fine company was the NSR, they picked a slightly different shade just to be different from the MR, then described it as more "delicate". Quite how one shade of red can be more delicate than the next I don't know. :)

Another fair comment, the only thing I would dismiss as fantasy would be if anyone suggested a GWR locomotive could match a five, that would be a laugh

i can vouch for that, hearing 30506 drag 70000 up medstead bank along with 12 mk1s was pure music, Had the Urie gone mainline during the daylight railtours time, it would have opened many an eye, i think the inspector even would have wanted it to show up some of the other 4-6-0's out there at the time.
