Free to a good home.

Mixed box of 21 guards (red/green/white) and fogging (red/amber/green/white) paraffin lamps of various British railway origins. Most are complete, some just need a good clean, new wicks, etc. Some need more restoration of the outer shell. Various spares included.

I could put them on eBay with words like 'rare', 'vintage' and all that overblown drivel that anything with a railway connection seems to attract. Or I could just give them away for a straightforward workbench...

I visited a local antiques fair a few weeks ago and on one stall I spotted a metal stencil, lettered "LE'SHIRE S.R." and on a second line, "L.M.S." (see photos appended). It measured about 14 x 8 inches and, judging by its weight, I think it was made of aluminium. A little incongruously, it was fitted with a small handle similar to those used on office date stamps.

The dealer was a chap I know slightly, so asked what he knew about it, but he was only aware that it was pre-nationalisation....

Hi

I'm going to put in a bid for a heritage lottery grant to get heritage boards and replica station signs put in along an old railway line through the council ward I represent and I was wondering if anyone can advise me on where I could source replica station signs? I need a quote for the bid.

To do it properly we'd need one in Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway style, one in LNWR style, one in LMS style and one in a 1940's or 50's BR style.

Thanks

Whilst helping a friend clear out his Grandads house and workshop, I was shown this piece of board and asked if it was anything I knew about. It is a coat of arms of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway, hiding under quite a thick layer of varnish. The board behind seems to be a separate piece, the thick varnish is not applied to it. The Coat of Arms itself is about 1mm (40 thou) thick. This seems too thick to be a transfer, but not thick enough to be a cut out from a piece of...

Hi,

I’m a volunteer member of the Support Crew/Engineering Team for 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. I’m currently in the process of building a personal archive of society and locomotive.

I’m primarily interested in rail tour booklets and tickets from 1965 to 1967. The majority of these tours were hauled by 60007/4498 but some were hauled by 60024. I have some of them but I’m looking to complete the collection.

If any members here are willing to sell their copies I would be very interested....
