    Create a new one.

It is very pleasing to see that a total of 6627 passengers travelled over the whole gala. That must be close to a record, and certainly justified the expense of hiring in so many locos.

I thought the railway carried over 10k for the 2007 SSG (Summer Saturdays in the West). That was the best ever gala I've been too, simply superb. Then the credit crunch kicked in! :(

You should have come to the GWSR last May, that was the exact theme of our gala!

    Ahem!

    This is a WSR thread.
:)You chaps on the GWarcsR do very well, but we think our combination of country/ coastal scenery makes the WSR very special..:)

It's not been the policy to have a theme for the Autumn Gala so much (last year being an exception). I personally think that themes for any gala restrict the locos which can be invited, especially considering that there seem to be less locos around which can operate successfully over the WSR. I would prefer to see locos which have not visited before, or are highly unusual for the line.

    Not so sure on that.

    2009 - GWR 175 'The Prelude'
    2010 - GWR 175 'The Finale'
    2011 - NO THEME
    2012 - Last Pines Express 50th Anniversary
2013 - 150 years of the Cambrian Railways
2014 - 50 years since the closure of Taunton Shed
    2015 - 40 years of the WSR

It would be nice if the railway could see 6412, 3205, 92214 ;), Victor return in October alongside the planned visit of 5542 (if I remember correctly?) to remember operations of the opening years.

    And back to reality..

Don't mind if no theme as long as guests are good. Hopefully 60103 in next few years

My memory must be suffering! Either that or they weren't very memorable in the first place!

    Evening All,

Having got back from a week in Somerset I have now had the time to add some pictures from the Friday to my Flickr site. If anyone would like to see them this is the first one in the Photostream :

[IMG]RD12846. 53809 at Bournemouth West (!) by Ron Fisher, on Flickr

Alternatively, they can be found in this album :

I must say that the folks on the WSR put on a really splendid show and I would like to express my thanks to all those who put in so much time and effort to create such a super event for the rest of us to enjoy.

For anybody who missed the Gala the S&D fun is continuing. Due to the WSR's DMU being in for some repair work next week its turn will be covered by 44422 with 3 coaches. With 53808 & 53809 covering the main steam turns it means all three will be out on the line, see the loco roster here on Steve Edge's wsr.org.uk site for the dates: http://www.wsr.org.uk/cgi-bin/r-roster.cgi

44422 is due to work to BL double-heading with 53809 on the 1525 MD - BL tomorrow (Monday) so it is in place for its DMU substitution on Tuesday.

Can you advise if 44422 is facing Minehead ?
