It certainly has shelves but I don't recall it having baskets. I've only been inside it once so I could be wrong.

I may have got my baskets and shelves mixed up.

The SVR has a suitable brake van but not sure if CW having lovinly painted would welcome the inevitable detrius

  5. Pigeons were released from a train making a station call at Washford during the S&D 30 gala in March 1996. Don't think it's happened on the WSR since.

Hi Anthony , I would imagine you might find more information on the WSR web site
You may find this information on the WSR website or Steve Edge's web site .

No need to wait for the volunteer day this year.

Just go here http://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/volunteer read the documents linked, download and fill in the form and drop it of at BL station. The volunteer co-ordinator will then get in touch with you.

Or feel free to PM me and I'll help you to get involved. (I think you may have attended volunteers days in the past so you should know the score?)

I've dug out a photo I took of the interior. They're folding shelves. This photo is from October 30th last year.

    So they're not pigeon holes?
I'm guessing the folding shelves fold down to take the baskets of folded pigeons.

They are folding shelves for pigeon baskets, the original use of this space. You can all see the quality of the finish. I would not like to be the one who cleans up the birdy droppings

Of course, now that the railway is so heavily overgrown, according to the photographers, this would no longer be possible. :)

Could anyone confirm please whether Maybach Memories will be running this Sunday (25th), as there is conflicting information on the WSR PLC web site compared to other sources. I don't want to make a 200 mile round trip only to find it's not running.

Various communications from DEPG, Steve Edge's web site and the Online newsletter all suggest there are two round trips starting from BL at 11:50. However, the published timetable at www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/timetables shows only one round trip, staring from BL at 11:05. I suspect the published timetable is wrong, though why the PLC would be reluctant to advertise its own trains it beyond me.

I did email WSR plc on Wednesday for clarification but am still awaiting a response.

  16. I have no authority to confirm anything ;) - however, the WTT also seems to suggest two round trips for D1010, Barry.

Thanks, Steve. That's what I'm hoping for :). A curious state of affairs though - assuming the WTT is correct, there might well be a bunch of people who have turned up in good time for the published 11:05 diesel-hauled service, only to have to wait around for another 45 minutes for the actual train. Maybe WSR plc is learning communication skills from certain parts of the 'big railway'. Oh dear.

Why not phone the WSR and ask? Just curious?

Great picture, is this a spot the location on the WSR competition !!!! I'll say its Leigh Loop, no perhaps its Kermoor, or Horse Parks, actually the first tree on the left is like the one at 176 Bicknoller...............................LOL :D

More seriously the RRV Flail was out again on Wednesday night as per a picture on wsr.org.uk. We were the last train through getting into BL at about 6pm so they had a clear line from then and they were still going at 9.15pm making the most of the day light so lots of effort is being put into clearing the lineside and the locations I mention above are very open.

  20. Well, thanks to your alert, I've realised my version of the train times for 25 June was not correct as it omitted the DMU diagram (don't ask why!) Now fixed (I hope)
