It was wet for AR but it did not seem to dampen local enthusiasm. Traffic was so heavy the Williton signalman was slightly late on duty.
Yours truly was fireman on the first down steam service. We passed Fiona Bruce doing a piece to camera at Washford so you might see my ugly mug when the programme is screened. I think she travelled down to MD with us, we certainly had a member of her camera crew on the footplate with a really dinky mini camera.

I see we also got most of page 3 in the Somerset County Gazette this week, as below, and, notably, the same coverage in both the West Somerset and the Taunton editions - the Railway sometimes struggles to get coverage in the Taunton edition. There is even -shock horror - a short quote from me, but don't let it put you off the paper.

By popular request, a couple more shots from yesterday as well.

    A fun day for all...

Does the inclusion of the "Lib Dem MP" advertisement indicate that too should only be regarded as of antiquarian interest?

This just in from the DEPG

    Hello,
Apologies for the lateness of this email, I have been away for a week and a bit, unfortunately Maybach Memories for tomorrow Sat 20th May has been cancelled due to operational reasons.
Once again sorry for the lateness of this email, hopefully you have picked this up already from the other sources of info on the web.

    Regards,
    Matt Cambourne

West Somerset Railway Classic Car Run - Sunday 4 June

This is now only two weeks away.

Cars gather at Bishops Lydeard from 9 and set off from 11 along a pre-arranged 35 mile route, looping around the WSR and taking in some great local scenery and by-ways. The Run ends at Minehead where display parking has been arranged adjacent to the station.

Spectators can see the cars gather, then catch the first train from Bishops Lydeard to get ahead of the cars and see / photograph them passing.

Entry is £10, which includes reduced rate travel on the WSR for the driver and up to four passengers. This is our third year and numbers have grown steadily from 40 in the first year, 55 last year and 67 so far this year. We have about 20 spaces left, so if you know of anyone who might like to bring a pre-1980 classic, do copy on this post. Entry forms / information are available from me or the WSR Commercial Office on 01643 704996.

If anyone is out with their camera, I would love some 'along the way' shots to help promote future years, perhaps passing Williton or Blue Anchor Stations, on Watchet promenade or in Dunster village where the cars pass in both directions!

    Regards

    Robin White

Regrettably not. Unfortunately the message not to attempt to chalk onto the (some gloss painted) surfaces prepared for painting did not reach the relevant staff and so the surface now needs to be re-prepared.

    I don't.

But the cars will set off from Bishops Lydeard, up the main road to Watersmeet Bridge, then Lydeard St Lawrence, behind Crowcombe station, along the lanes past Roebuck crossing and over Leigh Crossing to Heddon Oak, past Stogumber Station into Stogumber village, then towards Monksilver and Washford Cross to Watchet, into town, across the Promenade and back out towards Doniford, across Williton level crossing, Williton village, Washford, right at Dragons Cross through Old Cleeve, along Blue Anchor Promenade, over Blue Anchor level crossing, Carhampton, Dunster, Timberscombe, Dunster again, into Minehead to the top of the Avenue, down the Avenue and park at the Station!

    And all without drawing breath...:)
