"The Scottish Engine?", said Gordon, "Is that a loco whose name cannot be spoken by superstitious actors? Can't be 60103. He's a Yorkshireman just like me, made in Doncaster."

Sad news that John Pierce (Arkwrite) the very first chairman of the WSRA has passed away peacefully at the nursing home he lived in. I would like to say thank you to John and the first trustees of the WSRA for in effect saving the railway that we have today from closing all those years ago.

    Nick,

It is as Scottish as Rod Stewart i.e. purely a successful exercise in marketing. That said, I am delighted that we have the opportunity to make a useful amount of money from the visit.

There was an interesting debate today at Minehead over which loco was the first to do an authentic 100mph. The question that could not be answered is why City of Truro did not repeat the run with a calibrated dynamometer car. The FS claim is similar in many ways to the Wright brothers. They were the first to be photographed in mid air and history gives them the credit. Other claimants such as Percy Pilger and Richard Pearse have very credible claims but without the photo, those claims mean nothing.

In which case "benighted" rather then "knighted".

I believe that it has not gone unnoticed that the future of the free world is in the hands of Donald and Mickey.
