Looking realistically, I can see day 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 all without the possibility of diesel !

Other than last year due to loco unavailability doesn't the GB traditionally run without a diesel anyway. The Fort William will be a long day for steam both ways.

And that's what we hoped for in previous years which did often happen in the early gb trips but sadly hasn't happened in recent years especially on gb9 last year

Hopefully it'll be a successful steam hauled tour this year for those onboard

Suspect from the sound of it Big Al is onboard this year and has received his tickets and letter from RTC with the details for the magical mystery tour, albeit maybe not the detailed timings which get issued later each year due to the difficulties in pathing a tour of this complexity around the country

Correct. Of particular interest to passengers will be how the RTC and WC organise the days to Kyle and Fort William. Both are beautiful routes and if the cool weather remains a little longer then some of the mountain tops will still have snow. What we know is that with only the K1 up front, and everyone going to Kyle, the train will have to lose all unnecessary coaches - i.e. the luggage brake, POB and also a passenger carrying coach, I estimate - to bring the load down to something that is manageable. I notice that passengers have been told that there will be different seating arrangements to Kyle so it looks as though this has been thought through already. All very reassuring.

Yes, but we need a week of properly wet days to really dampen down last year's dead grass, bracken, heather etc.

Agreed, we had hail in Edinburgh yesterday but with 30 mins it had cleared up and you won't have been able to tell.
Might get some today though as it's quite windy and the clouds look stormy.

Weather wise, what is really needed is a following wind in both directions for the K1 on the Kyle run! :)

Photographers be aware that the RTC has now corrected what seemed to be a bonus about the Fort William trip. It is steam one way only to Fort William. From that we have to conclude, I guess, that a diesel is taken for a ride, or not, on the outward journey. Careful choice of 'disguise possible' locations I suggest if you want the authentic shot!

Useful to know, but exactly what I expected. It would be rather a lot to get the K1 to get to Fort William and then take the train back to Glasgow, only then need to return to the Fort to be back at its summer base for the Jacobite.

If your on the train, I expect you'll see a lot of Scotland and a lot of a Black Seat Leon too....

For once the RTC web-site was correct! Disappointing, but not a surprise.

Updated with the second part of day 9... I'll do my best to keep post 178 up to date with the times as I see them!
