This was the only time I have done the Highland behind steam and SG was a late substitute for No 9. We travelled up to Glenrothes and had 2 nights in a hotel just for this run, with Union's overhaul overrunning we were getting quite nervous wondering if the trip would end up being diesel hauled or cancelled. There was a shortage of suitable traction even then and SG was about the only available loco. She was quite simply magnificent and with a heavy load too. I can still remember the noise she made accelerating away from a signal stop to hit 40mph over Findhorn viaduct. I have had 4 runs behind her and all have been superb, but this trip was up there with the very best. I hope she returns quickly (HR seems to think it will be); with her preservation history she is something of an enigma locomotive who is now getting the attention she deserves.

Guess there is at least an even chance of that ......
Has Leander been undergoing repairs or simply routine running maintenance?

Well it looks like SG has really "run out of ticket". Leander was going well at Chapel Lane, Hoghton, 11 coaches and accelerated away down the hill towards Pleasington.

Looks from RTT as though it went straight through Appleby and took water elsewhere (Lazonby?). I know they have done this in the past when the horse fair has been on in Appleby, but does anybody know the reason today?

It was the full Jubilee roar as Leander powered up Wilpshire Bank, 7E at Ramsgreave & Wilpshire. The regulator was not closed until the whole train was over the summit. All to no avail as the train was stopped at Daisyfield Jn. 9L off Blackburn and was going like the clappers through Cherry Tree.

Excellent angle John. I wouldn't recommend anyone buys a new rabbit hutch on the building site above the loco. Much of it was underwater during the 2015 floods. The older house in the foreground had water in about three feet deep.
