Looking at this site and reading alot of the press on the Net, it's made me think that maybe something could be done to reopen the line? Just look at this link.. http://disusedrailwaysofeastsussex.foto ... 02575.html

Okay so maybe it couldn't open all the way with houses etc, but alot of the bridges are still intact as well as the platform at Horam.

    Regards

    Andy

Whilst much of the trackbed between Heathfield and Polegate is now a footpath/ cycleway there are some major obstructions-
Heathfield- Industrial buildings on site of station.
Horam- As illustrated in the pictures- housing development encroached onto the trackbed.
Hailsham- Whole station area now covered by housing development.
approaching Polegate- Cutting filled in and houses built on top of the filled cutting. Following closure of the cuckoo line a new Polegate Station was built west of the old junction.

    Going north of Heathfield-
The A267 Mayfield -by-pass has been built along about one mile of the former route.
Rotherfield & Mark Cross station has been converted into a luxury house.

Well as long as we have no planing in the provision of public transportation in this country. Of course if ever we do have some joined up thinking at least in regards to railways, it would be one of the more useful pieces of infrastructure. The roads in that area are not really up to the job...

theres nothing to stop the Spa Valley Railway extending into the Rotherfield area from Eridge think its ok up to Argos Hill then huge obstacle at Mayfield, i.e not trackbed. its most definately not completely NO GO!

You have the line extending up to Eridge, which is fine as is already going forward! As for Mayfield could this not go out the outskirts of Tidebrook if Mayfield is a huge issue? This can run across the middle of various farms...

I think this is a case of "Watch this space".......

No I do not currently volunteer
I have walked what you can from Eridge to Mayfield and it is a no-go im afraid, to many important things missing, south of Argos Hill Tunnel a long, deep cutting has been infilled, a tunnel in-filled as well as part of the by-pass at Mayfield which has left the station building high on top of an embankment above the road!
