I've just got a book from the library, British Lorries of the Sixties by Peter Davies. Fabulous. It's turned the clock back for me and it has woken a hell of a lot of memories. There's a bit in it about Leyland's gas turbine 3 axle artic unit, AND there is a little bit about ERF's 88R Rolls Royce petrol engined 8 wheelers one of which was in Procter and Gambles colours but it was operated out of Smith & Robinsons at Rothwell, Leeds. I went passenger in it, just for one trip from Rothwell to P&G in Trafford Park. Straight 8 RR petrol engine, front disc brakes, in the 60's. It went up Standedge as though it was empty. I seem to recall the fuel consumption was "not good". Happy days.
