Facebook works fine whether you have an account or not - you don't need to 'have' it. I can see the same information whether I am logged-in or not (I just can't add my own comments - as is the case with most websites).

Depends on the settings of the particular page/area. Some are not available to people who are not logged in to Facebook.

    Ladies and Gents,

I'm pleased to announce that the discussions between the SRPS and the current owner of 45170 have come to a conclusion. We have successfully negotiated a three year deal to purchase the locomotive, however to do this we need any form of financial aid we can get! Over the next week or so we will begin to roll out our appeal leaflet (I'll post a pdf on here), not only this but we will have a range of merchandise for sale including prints, mugs, beer glasses and more!

For those of you who use facebook here is the link to the post detailing the good news: https://www.facebook.com/45170Appea...292348457841/1490114984608910/?type=1&theater

And please, if you haven't already, like our page and support Scotland's 8f!

All the best of luck to you guys.

I would suggest using a wordpress blog as your website, it's free and offers a lot of flexibility. It's what I use for my BHR blog. If you want any help setting one up I'd be happy to assist.

An update for everyone on here:

So with the appeal process in the final furlongs of being set up we are pleased to announce that 45170 will be making her trip home to Bo'ness via the place of her birth, Glasgow. Here she will be posed next to the Finnieston Crane on the 13th of November between 10am until 3pm (approximately).
Following this we are having a "Welcome Home!" event at the Bo'ness Station on Saturday 15th November from 11am until 2pm, when the locomotive will be on display so that you can see her in all her glory – bumps, bruises and all. The station buffet will be open for teas and coffees, there will be a chance to purchase some merchandise that has been produced and get a few photos for the album. The event is open to SRPS members – bring your membership card - There will be a platform ticket charge of £2 for non-members – waved if you buy a pint glass or mug.

Hopefully those who can will attend on the 15th and support us! For those further afield we are trying are hardest to get the online donations facility set up along with an e-shop for anyone interested in 45170/554 merchandise :D

Have "Liked" your page as requested. Best wishes with your 8F project. After all the trouble taken to repatriate these 8Fs, I'm pleased that a second one now has a long-term future in the UK.

    Well it is good news,
lets have a livery and name debate,
i do not know if an 8f was ever named then or now,
    but one should be,

    "John Axon GC,"

    With Respect,
"John Axon had a little book and in it he had written,
the name and the calss and the number of engine he had driven,"

His name was carried by an AC Electric loco.

Not sure, might be a bit odd considering he gave his life on one.

Not sure about an 8F with a name,
but "Ronald G Jarvis" would make sense to me... after all he went out there with them in 1942/3, equally it would be deserving of a fellow Turkish name, maybe on the other side..

But left to me.. it would be restored in WD condition, to mainline condition, without name, as it left NB as it truly would be a working ambassador of NB export heritage and a fabulous mascot to Scotland.

No name but a polished works plate and maybe a little plate dedicated to the Royal Engineers maybe? I think a lit fire in the firebox might be the best tribute of all though.

Quite correct! However there's a long way to go before we can have a proper livery debate (although we have something in mind!) ;)

So if you can dig deep, no matter how small to help us out it's appreciated.

My vote would be to retain her in Turkish condition, to help engage visitors to Bo'ness with Glasgow's history as a city that exported locomotives around the world.

But that's a minor detail of course - what matters is that she has a future. Good luck with the appeal, I'll chip in a few pennies once the online donations facility is set up :)

45170 has been loaded on to a lorry this evening, and will shortly depart for Glasgow!

She will be on display underneath the Finnieston Crane tomorrow from 10 until 3, and In Bo'ness station from 11-2 on Saturday. Hope to see lots of people out for a look!

Thanks to those who have already donated - for anyone who hasn't and wishes to do so, the link is here:
