I will be in Switzerland in early July 4th onwards.

Quick question are there any websites about Swiss specials equivalent to uksteam.info for the Swiss. I've seen a few steam tours over there so they don't seem uncommon.

    Many thanks

    Nathan

If you can get to Erstfeld on 4th July there is a Fitnessfahrt, when SBB give their historic locos and stock a short run out to keep them in good condition.

    http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... =Translate

The translation is very poor, but basically there's a 4km branch from Erstfeld station, and each item of stock takes a trip up there and back. Admittedly there appears to be only one steam loco, an 0-6-0T that has a carriage body built around it. The rest of the locos are electric, but include a Krokodil, the massive Ae 8/14 (14 axles, 8 powered), plus a couple of others.

There is another one on 11th July up in Olten, but that is electric locos/railcars only.

Excellent website. Another event to add to your list. I'll give it a plug now that I've got my tickets sorted!

    22nd/23rd August, details at http://www.jubi-koblenz.ch/

Probably best to translate it using Babelfish or Google translate.

Steam festival based in Koblenz, about 40 km northwest of Zurich. 8 locos in steam, plus visiting railtours and positioning moves, including DB Pacific No. 01 202 on the Saturday.

On Saturday morning No. 28 "Genf", an 0-4-6T built in 1858 will be working between Zurich Hbf and Koblenz on a positioning move, returning again on Sunday evening. A couple of photos of Genf are below. My ticket for the return Koblenz - Zurich trip is in one of the open coaches!

Thanks, I missed that event. Looks good, I will be there...

I sampled "Genf" at the Rigi Bahn event in May from Arth-Goldau to Immensee & return. Very interesting riding in open coaches on the mainline, passing ICN units at speed. Someow I can't see this kind of thing ever happening in the UK again, H&S would have a field day.

Here's another picture of the beast

Swiss events can be v good indeed + I too have tickets for Zurich Hb - Koblenz hauled by Genf as well as shuttles with a 4-4-0T and many other gems(+ 01-202 + French 241A 65) There seems to be some rare "positioning" ie a double headed train hauled by a mallet+440T.....................
See you there 5944. Also Rigi spls + paddleboats on L.Zurich(english version!)

BTW I am leading the RTC Austria trip--please PM if you booked on this one---some threatened n.g./rack lines/Strasshof depot etc..............

See you there then Ray! I'm currently planning to spend around a week in Switzerland in August, combining the festival with a few other bits.

Current plan is fly out Thursday 20th, Dampf Furka Bregstrecke on Friday, Lyss - Koblenz - Lyss with 01 202 on Saturday, Koblenz festival on Sunday with Genf to Zurich in the evening, Rigi on Monday, followed by a couple of days spotting/track bashing before flying back on Thursday afternoon. Busy busy!

I'm also looking in to doing the trip on 10/11th October with Rhatia. I've just emailed them asking if there are any details yet.
