That's incredible bad luck. Not a lover of Thumpers but nevertheless it was someone's pride and joy and the result of a lot of hard work.

I did a driver experience on it a few years ago.

Both the thumper and everyone there were lovely

Unbeliveable. I used to Guard on this when I was a member there, and was hoping to learn to drive it. I just spoke to someone there and they said that apart from heat damage to one corner and smoke getting inside, the DMBS is largely ok although they're not sure about the wiring yet. It's now a case of waiting for the Fire brigade, police, and insurers to know for sure what happened.

From what I can see from pictures online it suffered minor damage to the Bottom of the coach at the trailer end. It's so sad and what's worse it's on the rise with a couple of arson attacks this year at various railways around the country.

Could Swindon and Cricklade railway restore DMBSO 60138 and operate on a DMBSO-DMBSO 2 car set without gangways. The other option is a hybrid class 205/207.

I doubt it, that thing is heavily stripped and if I remember correctly there was talk of it being scrapped recently. I 've heard also it's got the wrong type of bogies or something as well. The DTS's frame, chassis and bogies doesn't look too bad in the pics - it's the interior and bodywork that seems to have come off the worst. If the frame and chassis is largely ok and not too warped could it be rebuilt I wonder? We'd have to start a fund to have replica door locks and handles, windows, seating etc copied and made and source some replacement control kit for the cab but it might be worth it...

perhapsthe surviving mechanicals could be used together with the bodyshell of 60138 to create a new DTS? I suspect this might be beyond economic viability though and they might not have the resources and labour to do it.I hope something can be pulled out of the hat,

I was quite pleased to see the unit in use when I visited in 2015 DSC07610.JPG

Just found a post on Facebook from class 207 1317 which shows 60138 in the process of being stripped and scrapped. https://www.facebook.com/thumper1317/posts/1176578762354791

Sad news at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway,

Our beloved "Thumper" unit was destroyed in a fire last Friday. Cause is unknown at this time, but we're 99% sure it's arson. Trailer car is a complete write off, power car could be salvageable. Gutted is an understatement. Some pictures and news reports below

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ain-worth-100-000-destroyed-arson-attack.html

An appeal has been set up as we've been inundated with offers of donations. Obviously things were insured, but some of the tools lost won't be covered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
