The exception, if you're planning to stay out this late, is the 18:20 from Wareham...as a positioning move for 34092 it should remain at the rear all the way to Swanage, unless a LE move is planned. Given the 2 minute planned stop at Norden, a detachment seems unlikely.

Loco A works xx:xx from Swanage. At Norden loco B attaches to the rear (Swanage End). Train then TnT to Frome river bridge.
On return working Loco A detaches at Norden and Loco B takes train to Swanage.

Loco C works XX:XX from Swanage. At Norden loco A attaches to the rear. Train then TnT to Frome river bridge.
On return working Loco C detaches at Norden and Loco A takes train to Swanage.

    And repeat....

At Swanage, the gist of the plan is for train to arrive in Plat 2, a loco (probably 80146 aka '104) to shunt stock to bay(after everyone alighted).
Loco onto the Wareham. When next train arrives in Plat 2 the train in Plat 1(bay) then departs.......and repeat.

I for one would not consider this. The A351 from Stoborough to Norden is single carriageway 60 mph limit with no footpath. Even cyclists have a rough time with the heavy lorries heading to Swanage.

I did this last year at the Spring Gala to arrive at Corfe for the first train of the day, ended up flagging a lift from a kind gentleman in a motorhome. It's further than it looks on a map, and as @Sunnieboy says, the A351 is difficult, though traversable in my experience - as long as you don't mind occasionally having to jump into the ditch to get out the way of wider vehicles! Good luck to you though!

personally i wouldnt walk it, the roads on purbeck are not exactly pedestrian friendly, i can recomend the bus just allow yourself sufficient time, can you add plus bus to your rail ticket ? , i have used the via chain ferry service in the past when it was part of wilts & Dorset, its a really nice ride, especially if they use open top buses

Its going to be a great event, but I'd had hoped for more variety too. Top tail most services is a bit unimaginative.

As you cannot run-round beyond Norden, how did you suggest trains operate other than T&T?

You might not understand that the rear loco comes off at Norden on the way south, so it is ONLY T&T north of Norden.

Just think, you may have the inestimable pleasure of signalling a proper Bulleid in Mr. Bulleid's preferred shade of green. What more could a girl want. :)

This is a real step up from the 2016 galas, which were pretty groundbreaking in and of themselves with four trains running through to the River Frome bridge. Looks like it's going to be a pretty slick operation attaching and detaching at Norden in 5 minutes or less. I'm not bothered about the lack of double heading and think it's going to be a great event. Just hoping the weather will be good. The Saturday of last year's spring gala began wet and turned into a lovely afternoon - ideal therefore for travelling AM and some pictures PM. All in all, one of the most enjoyable days railway-wise of 2016 for me, but the 2017 gala could well be better still.

Plenty of black diamonds in 34081's tender - well, maybe no so many at the end of the late shift. :)

I think if you can convert this:

    into this:

purely by the temperatures and pressures available on your loco, you need to adjust your safety valves a bit! (On the positive side, might help fund the next overhaul...)
