Hi Nick. Yes it is. Was visiting the yard to see 4150 and stopped to watch. Good to see numbering done by hand and not by stencil. It was fully numbered when I left.
    Cheers, Robin

Indeed, they are all done by hand, mostly by one person.

I haven't forgotten you folks, I have been away to Buckfastleigh over Easter, however, I have received news regarding 102691, if all goes well, the next two weeks will see a new resident taking her place in the yard. I will bring you up to date when we know more.

I did thanks, Busman's holiday more than a break, but can't fault the greeting I always get when I go down there.

The observant of you will have noticed that the numbers on the wagon outside in the yard have changed, no, this isn't because we put the wrong number on, this is because we have said goodbye to 102691, and welcome 13154 (The one that we have been making bits of brake gear for) into the yard for some attention. So hopefully we will be seeing 102691 in gala goods trains for a few years to come.
True to form, 13154 had been in an hour and we were pouring water onto it to stop it catching fire, as we have had to remove one buffer, and this needed the application of a little heat to get the nuts to shift. The new brake hangers are currently in the process of being fabricated, the plan being to make two new ones (Was originally four but I can't find enough material), remove two worn out ones and replace them with the new ones, then re-condition the worn out ones for use on the other end of the wagon.
Inside the goods shed, a large hole has appeared in the side of 55577, the further we investigate, the more work we are finding is needed on this wagon, which will keep us busy for a few months to come.
On the opposite side of the yard, the South Eastern and Chatham wagon has had the rotten planks removed from her floor to try and stop the rot spreading to the unaffected planks, so this may suddenly appear in the yard once 13154 is done.
    Wish us luck,
    Olly

Welcome to the latest edition on Troublesome trucks weekly.
Inside the shed, to the untrained eye, the Southern Brake appears to get smaller every time I see her, or rather the hole in her appears to get bigger, however there are some new parts appearing in the trestles and work benches around the shed, and the lads have been busy applying a coat of primer to the exposed metal and new woodwork, meaning hopefully some bits will start going back on soon. Don't be fooled, she still has a long way to go, but we want to finish repairing one part before we start the next, else we could end up with the whole van in bits on the floor and not knowing where anything fits, which clearly would be an issue.
Outside we spent most of Saturday examining the various scars and signs of a hefty biff that she received at some point in her pre-SVR life and wondering what exactly happened to her!
Her replacement brake hangers have been made and are ready for drilling and fitting. The new ones won't be drilled until the old ones are off, the reason being that we don't know the exact position of the holes in the frames, wagon building being more of an art than a science back then, so cut the old ones out, mark through the holes and drill to suit is the order of the day.
It was a pleasure chatting to some of you at the open house event and hopefully we will get chance to meet more regular readers soon,
    Olly

It's that time of week again where the weekend draws to a close and Monday looms large and horrific on the horizon.
We have made the most of the weekend, despite a couple of the lads being off with the lurgi!
The southern brake van now has a verandah on the north end again, and is already looking much better, while 13154's brakes took a huge leap forward, as on Saturday morning, despite the production of parts nothing had actually been done on the wagon's brakes, the old brake gear was soon dropped off the river side, the rivet heads cut off the old hanger brackets, and the brackets and rivets removed. Before Lunch we were measuring up the holes for the new hanger, and by the evening, we had riveted them on, re-hung the brakes, and adjusted the slack adjuster to suit, two down, two to go!

I noticed, as I was coming to sign on to work an evening diner, that some creative bad language, followed by a Eureka! moment, was emanating from the wagon on Saturday afternoon. Clearly, everything was in hand!

    Regards,

    John

Although in all seriousness JTX, I think I heard your voice about the time we realised tweaking the slack adjuster would help, so yes a definite eureka moment, although thankfully I didn't jump out of the bath and go running naked through the streets of Bewdley!

Yes, there are many things for which we should be thankful, and that is definitely one of them! I definitely heard the words,"slack adjuster," but I seem to recall there were...adjectives, lots of adjectives.:)
