Yes. Don't write off the DVD! I got a LOT of shots for it and I saw David Huntbatch in some interesting places. I would have thought the NNR and NYMR events also being held over the first weekend of the gala might have been the problem. The second weekend had poor weather but there were loads of people on the trains.

Lack of something different was the problem. After 246,828 ,6100 etc. could have done with 46447 or 46512 locos that many have probably not seen in the last 40 years. that combined with only rosters in silly unsold brochures, available on the day and out of date before purchased.
In the past could go midweek when only a few locos out that were interested in on the theme days.92214,45231 sorry last minute replacements but would they attract their hire fees/transport costs if paid for in additional ticket sales?
Wells ,nice as it is , has a previous preservation history around the country on the main line.

Ideal. Not sure if KWVR would let us have 2 locos though ;)

5197 would be an ideal visitor for us at some point. Be nice to see it home again.

Talking of the DVD, have they been sent out to those who have pre-purchased them yet?

I would have thought so. They were finished weeks ago.

I take it no-one knows for sure then? If anyone pre-purchased one and has received it, can they please confirm? I'll then know that I will need to chase up the organisers.

    Thanks

I got mine about 6 weeks ago but I always get one for free without asking. I would contact the gala organisers. It has very little to do with my Dad or David Huntbatch but I'm pretty sure you should have had it.

Seeing as it's David Huntbatch's company that edits and produces the DVD he kind of has everything to do with the DVD...
DVD's should be in the post if not already got them, if you haven't got yours by next week @daveb let me know as it's the AGM and I'll ask David in person.

The AGM notice also included the latest newsletter, which tells us not to believe everything that has been written in the mags. It implies the event made more money than a certain railway mag seemed to suggest, but that an exact figure was still to be calculated but hopefully something should be available at the AGM on the 13th. So we shall see...

He's not distributing the DVDs. He's not even in charge of editing them. Quentin went to his house about a week after the gala to tell him which shots to use.

Q may well be helping to select the shots, but all the hockery pokery of editing it all together and then producing the DVD is done by "Belhurst Productions", David's own company that he started since retiring from his previous marketing career.

With the SSS events being more extensive though, he does get help from other videographers as he can't cover all the going ons by himself. But he still does the majority of the post-event stuff by himself.

Hmmm. I was under the impression that he sent the DVDs to 6880 and they sent them out but I may have made that up. I saw him on Saturday. I should have asked him. Yes. My Dad was the other cameraman for the last 3 galas. I think there was another one in 2009 who did the interviews.

John Collins - a BBC Cameraman who supports David when his work schedule allows. Was behind the RailTV idea a few years ago that didn't quite get off the ground. Did the Promotional vid for SSS2 -:

Thanks for the offer. The current position is that I contacted the 6880 group last Friday via the "contact us" page on their website. I got an automated acknowledgement pretty well straight away, but nothing since, neither email nor DVD. I'll post an update at the beginning of next week, unless something happens in the meantime.

UPDATE: It arrived today. So I'll be able to watch it later and see if I managed to get myself on it.

Thanks to lil Bear for the offer to chase it for me, won't be needed now.
