According to the latest Heritage Railway magazine, Steam On The Met is pencilled in for the first two weekends of September. Trains will run between Wembley Park and Watford. Locos to be used include: Met 1, a pannier tank (possibly 9466) and Sarah Siddons. Rolling stock includes the 4TC set and LMS saloon no. 45029.

And the days are numbered for any trains at all to Watford Met.

Numbered, perhaps, but I get the impression that its already a big number (safely into four figures) that may be going up, as the whole commitment to the Croxley Rail Link seems to be becoming increasingly ambivalent. And mired in conflicting visions and priorities which seem to call into question the integrity of the whole Business Case for the project and the resultant abandonment of Watford Met e.g is this about Met expansion or Hertfordshire infrastructure consolidation?

In this context, somehow, I don't think that this year's S-o-t-M plans will represent any kind of "Farewell to Watford Met Steam" event. But for the time being, I'm just happy that the draft September programme will in some small way recapture something of the treasured memories I have of the great days of "Steam on the Met" in the late 90's that embraced the Watford branch.

According to the latest Heritage Railway Magazine, Steam On The Met will be one weekend (9 & 10 September) between Harrow & Amersham. Steam locos are Met 1 & GWR 9466.

The second weekend has been cancelled due to engineering work at Ruislip Depot.

Just a heads up, there is engineering work of the Met south of Wembley Park. If you want to get to the Met from Central London, your options are:
    • Jubilee Line to Wembley Park
    • Chiltern Railways to Harrow-on-the-Hill - Amersham
    • Piccadilly Line to the Uxbridge branch

"Sarah Siddons" was heading west on the M3 on a low loader yesterday. Where was she going? It won't seem right without her.

4 locos for 4 coaches is perhaps a little excessive but it is nice to see the LT Museum making an effort and the public filling the trains and using the pop up tea room. With several participants dressed in various period costumes people seemed to be having a good time. As ever a difficult event for photography but for the record a few shots.

20142 is needed to act as translator between vacuum and air brakes in the absence of Sarah Siddons. It's been a good first day, hopefully we can have more of the same tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Dan
