It's always nice to be recognised, and I'm not trying to start a "mine's better than yours" thread.

Severn Valley Railway is "Independent Railway of the Year" awarded by National Railway Heritage (not sure I recognise them?) "..in recognition of its recovery from massive flood damage in 2007...[and] in part for its successful £3.8m fund-raising rebuilding campaign.."

While I'm posting, the Beeb has reported a £200k shortfall on repair costs, link here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7970752.stm

After the postings about how the railway might recover, it's looking good so far for 2009 from a couple of local reports:

I hope this is of interest

TBH I wont deny them the award.

They have done fastically well just to reopen, being able to come back though so strongly is a credit to all of the SVR members and volunteers. This was all summed up by the Autumn Gala success, which for me was one of the highlight for 2008.

Well done guys and all the best.

Congratulations to the Severn Valley and all its staff & volunteers for doing such a marvellous job after the 2 heavy floods in 2007.

Well done to you all. =D>
