For those interested. S160 6046 is operating to Ipstones this weekend, 3x return trips off Froghall.

1st trip will be minus dining set, but this will be then added for the 2/3. Another noisy weekend up the Moorlands beckons!

6046 bigger sister 5197 passed her insurance exam this evening. Now comes the easy bit of putting it all back together...

An appeal that's been running internally for about 18 months now has been made public, in order to try and complete the vehicle's restoration.

If people can help raise the final £500, we would be most appreciated.

So long as the bogies to provide any hidden nasties, I'd like to see the vehicle restored for next March and running for the Volunteer Open Day in another Military Goods Train. Could even look into a charter to have 2x S160s haul the military goods if there's interest!

Sorry for the thread hijack, but what's the S160 at Tyseley ?, the VT site erronously shows it as 6046 but clearly that's not right.

6046 was at Tyseley for cylinder replacement, but I believe 3278 Franklin D Roosevelt is also there for overhaul

Still is. Not quite sure what's happening as last I heard was one of the main driving forces with 3278 had been taken ill. This was over 12 months ago, and no idea how serious whatever the illness was, but would be nice to see another S160 join the fold. There should be 4x in service next year with 2253 and 5197 returning to join 5820 and 6046.

6046 is, of course, currently running at the NYMR.

    https://www.churnet-valley-railway.co.uk/event/875/double-headed-s160s-weekend

How do you follow up the first Double-headed S160s in the 21st Century? You do it again of course!

Following 5197 succesful return to service at the Winter Steam Gala 2017, starring alongside sister 6046 on the Cauldon Branch, we are going to operate a weekend dedicated to our operational pair of USATC S160s on 6/7th May 2017.

5197 and 6046 will double-head all day throughout the weekend, operating a train equivalent to the weight of 10 coaches from Kingsley & Froghall station to Ipstones Loop - therefore including the 4.5 mile climb of the Cauldon Branch!

Timetable will be released shortly, as will advance tickets for which there will be an online discount.
